Alright I've been looking into iRacing an it looks absolutely amazing, except I have a few questions that I couldn't find answered on the website.

1. Once I pay for membership, is that all I have to pay for? Or is there more add-ons like I have to pay for more tracks and cars?

2. Or do I unlock more cars during the game and leveling up. How many levels are there?

3. Any type of customization in the game? Performance or body and paint?

4. Is there settings like GT5 on it. Like ABS, Skid recovery force, etc?

5. How many cars are there, because on the site it shows like 20?

Thanks for any help! :)

Okay, here goes :)

1. You don't have to buy more tracks and cars but you'll probably find that a race series you're interested in require you to do so.

2. You don't 'unlock' anything in this game. This is not GT5 :) There are licence levels (for both oval and road) and these run from Rookie to D,C,B,A and Pro. Your licence can go down as well as up.

3. By customizable, all the cars have various components that can be altered as part of a racing setup (suspension, tyre camber / pressure, aero etc). You don't add fancy wings or side skirts though! And yes, you do your own paint job 👍

4. There are a few assists; braking, throttle, driving line (a bit like Forza's) etc. No actual ABS though (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

5. Yeah, there's something like 20 cars (I can't be arsed to count them!) :)

The biggest thing to remember is that this is not an arcade game, this is a simulation. It's a whole different ball-game. Oh and it's also bloody awesome lol 👍

It's the game but your not paying for it and the only thing you can do is practice and stuff. I'm just testing it out to have a feel of what the games like before buying it.

Is there such thing?

Yeah I believe so. I heard a while back about someone hacking it and having a way to race all the cars and tracks offline, but you can't get online and race just offline practice. Just like any thing else on a pc someone can eventually hack it.

Josh I wouldn't say to much about having the hacked iracing. They have a very strict sporting code they sometimes enforce heavily. I'm sure it's against the sporting code to hack or modify the software. If they were to find out somehow they might not let you on or would kick you off after you joined if they found out somehow.

Greeze got it all pretty spot on. Just one thing I would like to add to #4. I'm pretty positive the few driving aids available are are only in rookie class. Once you move up to class D and above you can only have things like auto blip and auto clutch so you don't have to use a clutch when using paddle shifters. Everything else like traction control and abs will be disabled. I'm not sure about the driving line. Also cars are $11.95 and the tracks are from $11.95-$14.95 depending on the track.

I would not be downloading any hacked version of iRacing. iRacing went after an individual who kept using iRacings old NASCAR 2003 software for tournaments and made an example out of him. I mean taking him to court and fleecing him. If there is a hacked version out there stay away from it.

Wow, didn't even know there was a hacked version! Heed that advice; steer clear of it! 👍

Geeeezz! I'm downloading an offline iRacing game now. :)

It isn't a cheap game thats for sure, but its been worth every cent.

I am not sure how even the offline version will be good for you, not sure what version its running but iracing updates things pretty regularly.

The hacked version of the game is terrible. I actually went with Josh's method and "tried before I bought" and it greatly turned me off. The build is from 2008 and is build 1.2 something, so it's really old and has changed massively since then.

My advice, just bite the bullet and buy it, people told me it was much better than the hacked version and it absolutely is 100%. The latest builds that we now play online are massively improved from those early days. As others have said, iRacing is expensive but it's leaps and bounds ahead of every other racing game/simulation on the market.

Welcome to the dark side. iRacing is the best for clean online pickup racing.

here is a link to an iracing FAQ (some of the stuff is out of date and may have changed slightly)
http://www.iracing.com/membership/faqs/

To add to the other responses...
1. "A basic subscription for one year is $99 (which translates to $8.55 per month) and comes with everything you need to compete in your rookie season - three cars, two of them with two specifications each and seven tracks with 15 different configurations. We also offer additional content (cars and tracks) that cost either $11.95 or $14.95. Volume discounts are also available: 10% for any three pieces of content purchased at the same time, 20% for any six pieces of content purchased at the same time and 25% when you purchase everything available. The most cost-effective method to subscribe over time is the 2-year subscription plan which costs $179 or less than $7.50 per month. We also offer one and three month subscription packages for $12 and $30 respectively. In addition, we offer race participation credit in which you can earn up to $40 per year to put towards future purchases."

2. "Just as in real-world racing, iRacing.com features talent ladders that drivers can climb, based on their experience, the skills they have acquired and their record of on-track safety. iRacing.com also offers you the opportunity to drive cars and tracks you would never have access to in the real world. And while for organized competition drivers need to progress through increasingly demanding license levels, all members have access to unlimited test sessions with the cars or tracks they've purchased. Additionally they can race the content they have purchased at any time in private hosted sessions."

4. There are driving aids available (autoblip, driving line, brake assist and acceleration assist). However, iirc, autoblip is available for anyone all the time (not all wheel and pedal sets have a clutch pedal and some people use gamepads). The other 3 assists can be used in rookie class races and any practice session but not in any official races (I think the assists can be used if offered in a hosted race). I think there is also a time penalty for using assists (besides the autoblip) that will make your lap times slower if the assists are turned ON.

we hope to see you on the track!
:)

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm getting some money together and will probably try it out!

The sim can be a bit overwhelming at first so please ask any questions here or in the iracing forums (only accessible to active members).
good luck!

Make sure to use one of the promo codes to get a discount when signing up. There's a thread on here that lists them all

One more thing. If you have found someone on here particularly helpful it's a good idea to put their name down as a referrer when signing up. They will get 10$ iracing credits that way

You will need there email address, I believe, before you go to sign up. If you dont have it you Cannot give it to them later. Thats the mistake I made. :grumpy:

well its not really true that you don't unlock anything in iRacing

the cars you are eligible to drive depends on your safety rating... you could buy quite a few of the advanced cars in the service and not be allowed to drive them in races until your safety rating catches up.

Yeah but that's only for official races. You can race whatever you want in hosted sessions.
