...As I just cant figure it out


I was running the Am. All stars champ. in my 485Hp Calsonic Skyline last night

Came up on the Test Course where I Bolted on the stage 4 turbo to give me 922Hp

The thing i dont get is that I had a top speed of 361km/h (344 through the 2 turns) and the AI Arta NSX (My closest competition) had a top speed of 315km/h

Over 5 laps I won by a touch under 3 seconds, how come this does not seem right at all?

Der Alta, famine are the guys Im looking at for some sort of logical answer

your suprised that a JGTC car is capable of that speed?
 
Well, I'm not AO or Famine, but here's my shot at it...

First off, the AI cheats. When they're behind you, they get a bit of a HP boost. Also, it could be that the NSX is more aerodynamic and lighter than your skyline, letting it get a higher top end than you with the same HP. Lastly, if they draft off of you, they can go a lot faster than their normal top end. However, once they get to draft off you, they will catch up to closer than 3 secs, and they'll probably pass you. But...remember that they can draft off each other, and they usually do. They always stay in a pack and draft, switching off the one in first place. So, all the people behind the 1st gets to go faster, get into 1st, and the people behind him get to go faster, and so on and so on. So, they can effectively raise their top speed as a group.

So...my answers are....
1. Cheating HP boost
2. Lighter, more aerodynamic than your Skyline
3. Drafting off each other

That and there was possibly something wrong on your Gear Ratios. Atleast you won though
 
Your skyline has more aerodynamic drag, then the NSX, try playing around w/ your aerodynamic setting i.e. front wing setting and rear wing settings. that should help some bit..if GT3 is as real as real life then aerodynamic drag is your worst enemy.
 
i think purple platypus has it right, ive also noticed this.
The AI cheats big time in the Amateur league, moreso than the Professional league i think, but i dont have a sharkport or anything like that to back me up. This is just observation.
I forget exactly what race and car combo i was doing, but it was something on Seattle circuit in the Amateur league. One of my cars was doing laps in around 1:46, and then the next time i was lapping around 1:40. In both cases i recall only winning by about 4 seconds.

This cheating will only be amplified on Test Course, because not only does the competition get a HP boost when you're ahead, but they also get the benefit of your draft.
 
It is true that the AI gets boosted more in the Amateur level than anywhere else in the game. I think that's mostly it, but if his stock gearing was too tall for his engine (in other words, his top speed was drag limited, not redline limited) then drafting would allow him to get up there. But 30-45 kmh is a big number to gain by drafting, so I'm inclined to think it's the Amateur AI boost kicking in.

Run it again with Stage 3 turbo, and I bet you win by approximately the same margin.
 
Drift4eva, likestogofast and Kspeed - You've missed the point. There is nothing wrong with Bollock's car. The point here is, the AI speeds on the screen does not increase, but the AI are going faster than it says they are.
 
The AI cheats. Simple.

Just like that time I was racing against the Viper, using the CLK Touring edition. Managed to pass him on the 8th lap. Viper pitted, and managed to get me in less than a lap with fresh tires.

Everytime you change a vehicle's peak HP, you HAVE to change the gear ratios to compensate for the new power curve.

P.S. Sounds like it was a pretty exciting race.
 
Plus... What fun would it be in test course if you didn't have to worry about it a little and keep keeping your eye on em in your rearview.

I actually appreciate that PD added that dimension of cheating especially there. The rubberband effect keeps you on your toes.

They apparently did it both ways too. I have had situations where I dorked out and crashed as a result. Got turned back around and low and behold, the AI didn't get very far ahead of me. Good for beginners and good for somewhat advanced.

Funny that you say this. I was doing a race on the Test Course last night and since I was so far ahead, I would slow down, let everyone pass me and then catch and pass the pack again.

Then I started lapping people.

*sigh*

Maybe I should have used a Vitz.

OK, I'm not some sort of idiot that would not have changed his ratios, with 82,000km on the game clock and at least 2 years of OLR, I may know a thing or 2
I just thought that someone with a couple more brain cells than myself and with a different point of view could help :)

EDIT: I had the Aero settings at the minimum and the gears at, Auto 21 and final at around 2.8, was trying to utilise the Skyline's power
