Mar.7 (GMM) A variation of the speculated 'red tyre rule' will be implemented in formula one this year.

To coincide with Bridgestone's new era as sole supplier, the Japanese company must differentiate the appearance of the 'hard' and 'soft' options at each race, after the F1 Commission and World Motor Sport Council implemented an update to the sporting rules.

In Champ Cars, Bridgestone colour the tyre walls red so that spectators can clearly determine the compound in use, but it is not yet clear how the tyres will be distinguished for F1.

The new sporting regulation was amended "with the unanimous agreement of all competing teams" in the past days, the FIA said.

Subsection 4 of Article 25.1 B now reads: "(Each tyre specification) must be of one homogenous compound and visibly distinguishable from one another when a car is on the track."

Similarly, another new rule tweak requires that airbox cameras be coloured either fluorescent red or yellow in 2007 so that spectators can distinguish between each team's two drivers.

I would love to see the tire rule applied :) , and using red and yellow is much better than black and red

Yay, let’s all follow the trends of the series that is almost dead! Good idea. 💡 (by the way, I do like Champ Car)

I hate this idea of identifying the types of tyres, and that teams must use each compound at least once in the race. I thought Formula 1 was supposed to have completely open pit strategy? What next, pit windows? 👎

I think that teams still open pit strategy as they can control when to use the hard or soft compound . Its just in extra variable they have to take into consideration when the plan

Yeah, that's tyre rule is crap. One of the great things in F1 is not knowing everything. And how ugly will red side walls look? (I don't watch Champ car)

What next, pit windows?
Nah. They'll put a gigantic board on the pit straight showing, what compound they're on, the thread depth, and how many laps of fuel they have left.

Sorry, but I completely disagree. The red tyre rule in ChampCar is excellent. It's really interesting to see how performance changes with the tyre compounds, and having this as a parameter to guess will just increase the capacity and for commentators and viewers alike to talk complete bull faeces about relative performance.

Visual distinction rules.

I like it, the top teams will probably be running the same compounds during the same periods (best first, worst for shortest stint), but it'll still be interesting to notice any differences.

The red walls may make some of the F1 paint schemes look abit nasty... and oh boy is it going to make Honda's one look even more of the train wreck than it already is in my opinion! But I suppose its not all about looks.....

At least the ferrari's will look good :sly:

Unless it is a different red. Then it would look hideous.

White would be better, though, I agree.

It dosnt look bad. looks kinda cool. Allot better than what my minds eye was picturing.

Noticed something about that pic though. all the cars in that pic are using the softer compound tires, except for the one thats sideways. gee i wonder what happened there.

nobody said anything about how they are going to make the compound visiable , the rule only says that it has to be visiable , so there is a chance that they might implement it in a diffrent way

It definitely won't be a full red sidewall like the ChampCars, because that requires a change to the moulding of the tyres. Current favourite is that the sidewalls will be daubed with some form of marking at the track. This, when the tyre is rotating at speed, will make it appear to be coloured. What's all this malarky about using both compounds during the race?

A bit stupid and pointless isn't it? I can't see any gains in that rule.

when diffrent teams use diffrent strategies I think it will promote overtaking (car using soft and other using hrad) , and some tracks the hard compund won't work well which means that drivers will strugle maybe make some mistakes and allow over taking . We'll have to wait and see
