its wednesday after noon and i take the new corvette down to seatle for the start of the amature american race :D

i have my newly purchased black corvette Z06 with a fresh wash and oil change, with no mods except supersoft tires and here i am all geared up for my race....when i come up against the corvette C5R, i thought about quiting and then decided i would be bold after my long walk to the bedro... i mean drive to seatle :)

so the race starts...the C5r fpr some unkown reason is oly 0.5xx seconds infron...i thought to my self "HEY I MIGHT NOT LOSE BY MUCH"

and guess what....i won by 1.4xx over a corvette C5R with a stock ZO6.....

my point is that the AI has to be improved...i should stand no chance in beating a race car with a stock corvette....none at all
GT3's AI is a load of total and utter bull shoit

True that the AI needs improvement, but its not that bad. Maybe you just had one of those "easy days". I dont know if its just me but i find that on some days the AI goes easy.. and on other days they're just a pain in the @$$.

I think that some parts of the AI sucks a$$. I mean, for example. I think it was the Amateur FR challenge race.... I had a 300ZX TT with a stage 4 turbo and every other performance mod, and the RX-7's and Supra's were totally keeping up with me...... Whats up with that?

perhaps it was running slower because it was an amateur race. i doubt it would have been easy in a pro race.

but the ai is awful, no question about that. just as a test i parked my skyline (bright yellow just to make it visible) on the straight at test ring with just a tiny section of my car on the racing line. it would have been trivial to move slightly to one side to avoid me but the cars just careered straight into me. all they do is follow the pre-determined racing line. i doubt the programmers spent more than a day programming the ai. in fact they probably found the code on the back of a cornflake box hehe.

I noticed that also. If you would run your 300ZX TT with all those mods but being say in 6th position, you would find that its almost too easy to keep up with the other cars. But as soon as you get in first place, the pace of the AI increases big time. I really hate that. Its almost like the AI runs on a handicap setting depending on what position u are in. If ur in first, the AI will race much faster. If your behind, the AI slows down. Very stupid if you ask me.

The AI had to be pretty crappy in that race if he beat the Corvette C5R with a stock ZO6. I didn't think that was possible to do, but I guess if the AI car kept spinning out and messing up, it would be possible, but that is the only way that you could beat him, I would think.

I agree with you all. the rubberband AI in gt3 is mabye the only weak part of the game. PD made it easy for themselves with that one, the alternative would have been regulations in hp/weight ratio in each race like in gt2 and mabye that could have made it more fun..

but it's a tricky one.. In a game like this with so many ways to modify your car some form of rubberband AI is probably the only way to go to get some close competition. It's so different if you have a car that you can't do much with that you must use in a specific race. Then you can make the competition even without the PD-trick. (e.g. vanishing point for ps1 or mabye cmrae)

/D

Again, I think the problem is that the game was designed for a general public whose attention span, driving skills, dedication to the game are lacking compared to us. An AI we consider competitve would mop the floor with the average player. So if PD is ever going to have an AI with the skill level we'd like, there'd have to be a difficult setting in the game so the average player would be able to enjoy it as well.

In the Amateur American Championship, the cars you see are:

Corvette C5R
Viper GTS
Corvette Z06
Cobra
Corvette Grand Sport
Camaro SS
Mustang SVT Cobra R
Camaro Z28

It definitely seems like a mistake for the C5R to be in that race, because the Viper Team ORECA is never there. The C5R comes close to lapping the other AI cars.

1. I am not disagreeing...

2. if the AI are in front they dont need to catch up and therefore take it easy... it's natural and saves tires

3. if the AI are behind you then they need to step up the pace to catch you. some times they have to take risks to do so.. so therefore it is only natural to adjust speed according to position.

4. even tho he had a stage 4 turbo etc, whos to say that the AI didnt too? a suped up rx7 or supra will easily keep up. :)

There should be some way of "winding" up the AI cars, like the slow car boost on all Arcade games
say if they are allready at 100% then there ought to be some adjustment to improve that up to 120%-150% to give us some sort of challenge as there should not be a snowballs chance in hell for a stock Z06 to beat a C5R in that race (or any for that matter)

Uhh, yeh, maybe you should look at the level you're racing at? It's Amateur, not Professional...but yes, even the Professional AI needs to be seriously upped.
