I was having a bit of a think the other day after copping a hiding on the resale value of a car I bought (in GT3) and didn't like.

I wonder if they couldn't expand on the 'car market' aspect of the GT series a bit more - you'd get that a bit with the used car markets in GT and GT2, where you could snag a bit of a bargain if you got lucky with your timing.

You'd need to expand the game into an calender based game, where certain championships might be on at certain times, so you'd need to choose what series you wanted to race.

As an example, you start out at day 1 with your $10k in pocket. You need to get licenses, but the basic championships run earlier in the year, so you don't start out with nothing to, and the more advanced series run later.

As such, demand would ebb and flow for particular types of cars depending on what championships were on at a particular time.

Also, if a car had won something significant, the resale value should be more than for a regular version of the car (eg. [in hushed tones] 'that's the 787B that won the Formula GT series']).

It would probably make the game far too complicated, but I think they could pump up the market and time management aspect of the game a bit more.

I'd probably just be happy trawling through the second hand car yards ala GT2...

That still sounds like a wonderful idea. I remember someone mentioning something about a place where random posts of different races would occur... something similar to a bulletin board. I liked that idea once I read it, just haven't really had anything to say it for until now.

"Think your street car has what it takes, come out now..."
Limited cars allowed
Prize: 25,000 credits

That would be a small example. You can be creative and add prize money and a car into it. The trick would be for some races that the other cars would have been modified slight/heavy, making it increasingly tough to win. It would take more driving skill and car choice to win the race than just beefing it to the max. I wish that could happen sometimes now....

I think that bulletin board idea would be great for online racing...

One thing I think would be cool... is to have a used car market... based online! PD or Sony could have a central server setup especially for it, where they store cars that players sell, and put old ones of their own up for sale. It could be similar to NFS PU where the car's value is determined by mileage, condition, and modifications, and when you put it on the market, you have to wait till someone offers to buy it before you get paid for it (and ofcourse, you have to accept their offer).

And along the lines of an online based car market, PD could put new models for sale on the normal market too, so a new addon pack (aka GT Concept) wouldnt need to be released for us to have more cars. And correct me if Im wrong, but since those new cars would be distributed free of charge, they wouldnt need to bother with getting licensing:)

And to prevent cheating, they could require to keep an online driver profile in order to participate in online racing and contribute to the car market.

Ahhh, I could go on all day with the possibilities of online Gran Turismo...

Then I could finally get rid of my disgusting Red Treuno by sending it back to th polyphony digital server and let some other sucka buy it. heheheheHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA (manic laugh) 😈

The online racing would be great. If you are speaking of GT on the PS2, how would you have all that hooked up to the internet?? That is a great idea of a central online garage, a HUGE place for buying, selling, and trading of cars.

You could make your own second hand car store. Now that would be cool, you could make GT into a. Second hand car Management type game. (SELLING ALL THE TREUNOS TO THE SCRAPHEAP HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ahem)

You can already hook up to the internet, add zip drives, keyboards, mice and external hard drives. I'm no expert but there are plenty of people on this forum who could show you pics and send hardware specs through. Check out the 'Search' facility. :)

'GT Manager' the game. :D hehe.

Sideways I suppose...

I hate that damn treuno because they seemed to have excluded the Levin which I drove so much on GT and GT2. So I take it out on the Treuno for being more popular.

To the original thought.(not online) They could/should make it so you could sell the car for a certain amount or chose to trade in for a new car that would give you an extra $2000 or so towards the new vehicle. Hell thats how it works in R/L. you almost always get more on a trade in.

If you had online car suppliers they could occasionally have sales. And sell limited edition versions of cars to give it that more personal feel. They could also drop or lower prices depending on the real car market. Another (stop me if you think im going too far) idea could be having to get some of the rarer cars from car import dealerships and paying a bundle for a nismo 400R

Who's the lucky buyer? -if a little mentally challenged- :D

Fleet discounts? Buy 20 or more of a car at discounted rates then trade them off at a little under normal price to other players... ;)

I like the sale and limited edition idea. who knows maybe they could do some custom's too (like a mustang halfback etc...) and sell it for a hefty price. all in limited quantities of coarse. oh no, just had a painfull thought. you know how people sell stuff from games (diablo2 etc..) on ebay for $$$, well imagine these hot ass cars on GT4 that only come in limited quantities and you want one so bad, and dufus in dingleville auctions his on ebay...blech lemme stop. my head hurts 8)

On second thoughts that was a BAD idea I remember hearing about that. I mean who would pay money for a VIRTUAL item?

Yeah, ebay not a good idea. No one should go to that extreme. An interesting thing about the online garage could include rare old muscle cars that people here seem to want, as wel as specially tuned race cars that aren't in the game. That could include an NSX that has Castrol stickers or something. I am just trying think of an example. Maybe more exotics

Anywho, that's a fill-in...

....cars designed and modelled by individuals? Built to order machines? :)

That would spoil the purity of the online garage with hybrids that people build. Almost nothing there will be anywhere close to real. Nothing but little cars that go 500 mph, let's maintain some realism here people, please :cheeburga

Cars designed by the individual? No, you'd end up with stuff like this
