Check the disk. Make sure there is no crack in the disk, their hard to see but look. I had the same thing happen to me and it was because the PS3 will not read a cracked disk. Mine was broke in the center ring, so you might start there.
This would be one of those times gamestops disc insurance would help out.. I think they charge a few bucks when you buy a game and if it becomes damaged they will give you new disc. I put it on my gt5 if you lived near Houston I would swap it out for you at a gamestop.

My Red Dead Redemption has a 1cm crack on the inner side of the disc.
But my PS3 reads it without problems.
However, I had a problem with my PS3 - it didn't read anything apart from 1 game which it stopped reading as the problem got worse.
I took it for repair and it turns out - the dust was the problem.
Is your PS3 dusty on the inside, how long do you have it, is it kept in a dusty area, are you using old PS3 (fat one) and is it extremly loud after running for 30ish minutes?
If the answer is yes then take it for a cleanup, it costs about $15.
Hi, give the disc a good polish with a DVD cleaner, move cloth from the inside to the outside, unlike a record (remember vinyl??). You should also give the laser lens a clean once in a while with a DVD cleaning disc. Dollar stores have these.
In the old days I had trouble with the GT2 (psx) and GT4 (PS2). A friend said that the disc worn out, there was no visible damage to the disk. Bought new disks and the probleme was solved

CDs, DVDs & Blu-ray Discs don't 'wear out' because data is stored on them under the actual surface.
An age-related problem is more likely the result of poor handling or storage.
PS3s are, to my mind, poorly designed in that it's difficult to pull out a disc without handling the read surface and any dirt as well as natural oils on your fingers will be passed on and increase the risk of surface wear.
Leaving discs lying around out of their cases will get them scratched.
Leaving them in a hot area can deteriorate the physical properties of the clear plastic protecting layers and make reading stored data difficult for the player. A disc doesn't have to be physically warped to be unreadable.
I'm not saying that one of these reasons is the cause of the problem here, but you can buy CD/DVD repair kits to polish out scratches or some games stores offer the service here in the UK.
It's worth giving it a go before forking out £45 for another copy.
