Something better then Win. Movie Maker 2.6 for free?

So is there any good movie editors or makers that are free? Or something really cheap under lets say 60 bucks? When I google it, its just too much info there.. and i see super expensive programs...

So far I use the WMM 2.6 with my Widows 7 64, its so basic, I just create quick music videos for my youtube page, I would love something more advance then that... Something to Slow and speed up clips, more visual effects, something that is not too complicated to use as well.

I am trying to create aTribute video to Mercedes Benz, as well learn a bit about movie editing. The 2.6 its so basic, its not getting me where I want it to be. So can someone share some opinions and best one to get? for FREE or under 60 USD. Thanks.
 
Really? So only solution is paying hundreds of dollars for something better? Ahh..
 
Try Pinnacle Studio HD, it starts from around 50 dollars. I've used it before and it comes with lots of effects and a very nice interface.
 
DIVX Author is another good one if you want to make a movie with menu's. I don't know about video editing but there is no harm in trying it.
 
If you can, try taking some of the files over to a library, maybe they have a media center with some imacs that have imovie,or maybe even final cut express. If you want to get serious about editing movies or music, mac is the only way to go.

I have used vegas pro before,its somewhat complicated to use, but if used in the right hands it can make anything look awesome
 
I always used Adobe Premiere Elements when I was Windows-based and it was excellent. But it's $79 apparently, and not sure if you fancy going that high

(FYI, if you feel like *cough* obtaining such software, never get tempted by Premiere Pro. Ever. It's the scariest thing in the world to try to use.)
