Something funny happened to me on the way to the Autumn Ring...

I was driving my preposterously overpowered RX8 around the Autumn Ring (full). During the pre-race rolling start, I actually passed two cars, and started in fourth position!

This also happened a second time, starting me off in fifth position each time.

I'd say that the rolling starts aren't quite as "static" as they seem at first glance.

(I found this pretty funny, and wanted to share).

I've done this as well in a variety of fully modded cars when racing much slower competition in both A-Spec and B-Spec modes on a number of tracks.

Yeah, I dunno what it is , its like pit speeds in faster cars they var , even though its supoosed to be same speed, well something glitched past the Polyphony Boys.

Cheers Tm 👍

I don't believe its a problem with "our" cars but the AI of the computer makes a mistake to lose the position.

I passed a 2CV at the beginnig of a race at the 'Ring once  I also passed a car before the start of a B-Spec race when it went wide on the corner leading to the starting line :boggled:

it's because you have Racing slick on your car, and those computer AI have sport tires, so this AI "slide off" or wider turn, and you passed AI while on same speed :dunce:

I don't have a rational or realistic explaination like some others, but I'll just say it's one od two things
a- The computer can't handle your "beast"
b- The AI racer is scared he'll have to hold you off at race pace so he makes it look like an accident before the start. :scared:

I guess it`s at least a small consolation that occasionally ya get to start better than 6th, seeing as how you`re not able to qualify(other than a race series) :grumpy: . Wake up PD, put in some qualifying for ALL races next time. :dunce:

Something? More like a couple things...the jittering bug and this. Oh well, not every game is perfect, and this one is the closest to perfect of all racing games I've ever played.

well it is wrong, because in real life you would be disqualified/penalised.

It's also wrong to have a 6 car field where an AC Cobra is up against a Fiat 500.

The Fiat, or 2CV or whatever, just doesn't have the acceleration, therefore any faster car behind it just passes it.

I know this isn't allowed really

that didn't happen to me, what happened to me though is that during the pre-race the AI drove my car far off the road which cost me 2s

I also think there should be some awesome shoot-out type qualifying or something, agrregate scores I dunno, make intersting. I think always starting in 6th encourages people to use overpowered cars because you can't rely solely on ability when in an evenly matched car.

Ahh, Thanks mate, i finally understand Now, appriceated,

Cheers Tm 👍

This happened to me as well, every time I tried the race. The AI took my car into the sand just before the home straight but it cost me more than 2 seconds - more like 4. :yuck:

Uh, if you're talking about me, you're a bit off the mark. The only time I haven't run on sport tires is when the car I'm using comes with racing tires, otherwise I just stick with the sport tires ( pun intended)

Yeah this has happened to me quite a few time and io've come to the conclusion that it happens when your car can take a corner faster than the car you are following.

For example if the car in front of you has to slow down to take the corner and you don't then you will pass the AI car. It doesn't just do it when you have racing slicks.

Just my 2 cents

What I noticed is during the acceleration right before the start line Is when I passed the 5th place car. The timer started and we were just roling through the starting grid. The Civic I was using had insane accel and I just flat passed him before we went full speed.

I think you start at like 50mph but you hit a certain point before the start line that you can accelerate to a faster speed.

The timer (for the race/your first lap) starts when the car in 1st place car crosses the line

Your car (still controlled by the "computer") will start to accelerate before you actually get to the line, though it will not accelerate at full throttle. Which is why, if you have a pretty powerful car, you'll notice a sudden burst of speed when your car crosses the line and you actually take control (and it "allows" you to accelerate at full throttle).

Don't know why they do it that way. The first couple of times it happened I either rear-ended the car in front of me or had to take evasive action to avoid them before I figured it out. 💡
