Something I noticed with the latest Update

Another thing I noticed yesterday. I was using the 787b with stage 3 turbo. Baddest computer car on the grid was the always fast 01 Audi R8. Even with the stage 3 turbo in the 787b my Bob, in max blue zone, is almost 2 secs a sector slower than the R8 in the max blue zone so coaching is necessary to win with the 787b. So I coached and got to a 2 lap lead [bout 3 hrs during rain]. I passed it in the pits to get those laps on it. All my Bobs are level 40.

Now I later tried to add a 3rd lap while racing. My Bobs at max red zone coming up hard on R8 in max blue zone. I let Bob try to pass and he does. Now all of a sudden, almost immediately, the R8 turns into the X1. It repasses me while the driver is only about mid way between the max blue zone and neutral mark. Remember Im at max red zone and the R8 then pulls away without matching my red zone pace let alone not even at the neutral marker, still in his blue zone. Also this goes on for about 2 Ring laps and my tires are shot but his are ok and his milage didnt dip as much as mine though we were duking it out for 2 long hard laps. I found that weird as his car didnt seem to lose much tire or milage while mine got depleted badly.

So I retry again with fresh tires and he is halfway on his tires. My driver is full strength there driver is pretty good but not as full. Same thing happens but this time I stay on him a bit better but he still pulls away. When I check real time sector numbers I was shocked. He was doing my max red zone sector times at barely past its drivers neutral mark. Thats not all my sector times were slower than my previous laps by almost 2 secs. What happened to my driver? He fell all the way back by about 15 seconds even while Im max red zoning him. Never saw this happen before. He cant be tired as his is nearly full strength and on fresh tires etc. This was repeated everytime I tried to pass him during racing. I gave up as it made my driver so slow that even Audi R10 TDi and GT1 were giving me trouble until the R8 got far enough away that Bob started driving good again.

Did PD tweak the AI to do this with the last update? As I said Ive done 12 of these races and this behavior was not there before. Im wondering if its the 787B because I used to destroy the R8 with my Peugeot 908 with ease before the last update. Maybe Ill retry it with the Peugeot and see if this happens to it too. BTW I ended up winning with the 787b by 8 laps, passing in the pits for all but 1 where the Audi X1 ran into another car. Sucks to suffer from insomnia but at least I had a little fun even with the sandy eyes.

BTW it does add the feeling that you are in a dog fight lol. Its cheap programming but it does make you feel like you are in a race kinda. Until it gets old after a few laps.

One thing I noticed in the details of the last update is that the words "Race Choreography" were mentioned. Kind of makes you wonder how random the whole process is.
Was there a difference in levels between the drivers?

"Race choreography" refers to the license tests and/or some events I think where the AI cars will always follow precisely the same paths and will be in exactly the same spot at any given time every time you attempt that event. In Aspec or Bspec there is no choreography, or at least not in the sense that was meant in the update description.
Also, I know exactly what you mean about feeling like "you are in a race kinda. Until it gets old after a few laps."
Agree 100%

That is a very good question. All my Bobs are level 40. They are all around the same hot temperament and all are just as fast etc. It didn't matter which one I had in, the encounters all went the same. Near impossible to "pass and get away" from the R8. You can pass him but oh man will he come at you lol. It will stick to your butt for laps on end but use very little of its tire and gas compared to your car lol. Bob will drive off the road under pressure but of course the AI wont lol and my Bobs are level 40. If he passes you he will leave you and your Bob will drive like the car dropped a cylinder or something. At least with the 787b I used. Ill retry anther time with the Peugeot 908. Before the latest patch/update the Peugeot was a set and forget with my Bobs. It used to destroy the R8. I'm curious to see if this is still the case.

It was exiting the first few times but it got old once I looked at the real time and started cycling between my Bob and the R8 to see the disparity in hot/cold zones and sector/lap times. I hate programming that cheats the player to add a level of difficulty/suspense etc.

I just keep my drivers hot until the guy giving chase falls back and then gives up and relaxes into his position.

From there on they are kept at the middle of the red/blue thing. No need for fast laps, and no need to conserve it. Just drive it.

This actually makes me wonder how differently the results of teh AMG signature edition competition would have been with the new A.I

the ones for the competition were terrible.

I guess I wasnt clear or I was too wordy in my original post. This is exactly what I always did. Except now after I patched with the latest one that strategy seems to not work anymore. At least with the 787B. It was my first time trying to do a 24 Hours Nurburgring with this car and my first 24 hour race after installing the latest patch/update. I will try next weekend with my trusty Peugeot 908 that used to easily kill the field "without" supervision, regardless of rain or not. If it cant do it then I know its definitely the patch. If so, then it will be back to the X1 to ensure victory, when necessary, to level up a new Bob. Its really the only reason I run the 24 hours races in B-Spec. They break in Bobs great. 0-35 in one race.

BTW Im greatly exaggerating about the R8 turning into the X1 in case some think Im being literal. It doesnt leave you anyway near as disgusting as the X1 would but it steadily pulls away while it seems your driver/car just doesnt go as fast as he did before he came up on the R8. Sector times proved this to me over and over.

the 2001 R8 is a very VERY fast car.. you cant touch it in a straight line with a stage 3 turbo R10 like mine was (got it off a trade and didnt know it had the turbo.. once i took it off the car became easier to drive). my two 2001s will run 5 seconds quicker per lap around Cape Ring than the R10..

If the 787B can't cut it with fully leveled drivers, the Peugeots are usually a good bet. That, or any of the Group C racers and modern LMPs.

Im wondering if everytime you load up the game the parameters change. Reason is because my Bobs are all pretty decent at level 40 and they drive the Ring flawlessly even at max sometimes. This time they all went off at the exact 5 corners almost every lap. 2 of the corners I took even at max blue zone and they still went off while of course the AI drivers will take those corners at full max red zone no prob. Other times my Bobs dont make mistakes. I make it a point of choosing blue up arrow Bobs for my races so dont know what the variables are that PD programmed to cause these shifts in driving skill, even for top level drivers.

I wonder if this time I got hit with one of those "off" days hence the inability to pass and stay ahead of the R8 and inability to take those 5 turns. Its funny that all of the Bobs went off in those turns exactly the same way. It was like de-je-vu almost every lap.

So is the AI R8 using the upgraded turbo for the R8 or is it bone stock? I figured it would be bonestock and I would have the advantage with a stage 3 turbo 787b. Hmmm. Maybe thats it in a nutshell. 787 cant cut it even with the turbo, as Sumbrownkid said. I just got bored owning every thing with the Peugeot so I decided to try my fav Le Mans car. Oh well.

In a sense I did win the same way the 787B did in real life. Consistancy and reliability not speed. In RL it was killed by the Saubers in terms of speed but won when they broke. I used pit strategy to win this race cause I just couldnt go toe to toe with that Audi beast.

One weird thing in B-Spec happened me last night, slightly similar to this:
Doing the Historic Car Cup, my lvl 24 Bob is driving the Toyota 7. During the race (and the many re-attempts I had to do), on Monaco/Cote D'Azur he or other cars in the race kept hitting the metal barrier just before the chicane after the tunnel. Happened a load of times, always at the same spot.
@HuygensHeroes: Thanks for clarifying the race choreography point, its illogical to have license test this way though, as its just learning the pattern of the choreography rather than learning a real skill.

I'd like to add some info here

Bob's are much better/faster when in their confort zone.

For enduro, I use 1 slightly hot bob and 3 real cool ones. cool Bobs are much less affected by having their mood in the blue, so real cool bob's are super fast for enduro, much faster than a hot bob "in the blue". Si you don't have to coach them much. On a large track (liek the ring), they spend a lot of tiem alone, and when they catch up with another cool AI, they get a bit excited (just less extremely blue) and are automatically at their best, easing up the pass

What I think happens with that Audi "X1" is that Bob (AI) is getting excited by your presence and it makes him much faster, if he's a "sligthly hot" natural

it's clear that Bob's are slowing down when blue and getting fater in the red, but the farter they are from natural, the slower they get (towards calm) or the more errors they make (excited).

for tight races, you're better with a red bob who will make less errors than a blue one, but for enduros on long tracks, go with naturaly cool Bob's (let's say about 25% of the bar)

try this!

Lol farter.:)

Bobs in the cool to half way to red zone do best in endurances. Especially when you have a multiple lap lead.

The R8 has 820 something horses bone stock.. The 787B ive noticed has quite breathless acceleration as the speeds get higher. My stock one wont run past 230 mph on its own no matter what gear/downforce combo i try.. Meanwhile the R8 will easily clear 240 without really trying... My recommendation would be to try the bentley or something else with a bit more gut at the top

Something I noticed with the latest Update...

That the game is getting worse instead of better?

Yeah, I noticed that, too.

Now I later tried to add a 3rd lap while racing. My Bobs at max red zone coming up hard on R8 in max blue zone. I let Bob try to pass and he does. Now all of a sudden, almost immediately, the R8 turns into the X1.

So your Bob is driving a 787B and an Audi R8 turns into the X1 and... wait.. what. I'm confused

Really?? My 787b hits 233 on it's own at daytona if I take the corner just right. The 787b is in the 800 hp range too stock if memory serves. I'll check again when I get home to be sure. The turbo is pathetic as it adds little more than 40-50 hp.

I'm currently doing another enduro to level up a new boob. As I left I was 1 lap ahead with coaching in the Nissan R89CP. It's upgraded to 1036 hp. Before I left I checked there respective sector times between it and the R8 and the R8 was faster in the turns while the R89CP was slightly faster in the straights. Essentially a wash. Didn't get to battle it heads up yet though. I will when I get home.

Well alright. This thread can be killed mods. Did a quick test with the Nissan R89CP and it treated the 01 Audi R8 just like my Peugeot 908 did, like a step child. No contest. So it was the 787B that is the problem with fast LMP cars not PD's latest patch or my Bobs.

Still dont know why my Bob would drop back and act like he gave up though. I never noticed this before because I was always using the Peugeot 908 or X1 and they just destroy the competition. Maybe if your Bob has a hard fight he will take a break to recuperate? Until this battle with the 787b Ive never seen a battle that lasted 2+ laps of both parties going at it hardcore. So maybe Bob takes a breather after a while.

Anyway. /thread.

So that "Bob"" needs a breather is your final answer, and that should end the thread? 👎

B-spec seems to be "a little different" I did notice it aswell!

Oh brother. Some of you just need to be confrontational over the most trivial things dont you. I started the thread. I erroneously thought there was some changes in the game play but it seems I was wrong. So I gave my best take on the latter matter and figured the mods would close it as it really is pointless now. Free up some bandwidth. If you want to add to the topic then do so without the ignorance.

If anyone watches the race 787B won and knew qualifying lap times, he would know that 787B wasn't the fastest car at all in a straight line due to the lack of torque in middle RPMs zone and the 5 gears configuration. So, after so many years (10) from '91 to '01 lap times got a little faster. But I think because of it's handling, appearance and sound it is a very nice vehicle. Why don't we make a direct comparison in the same track between these two? In arcade with tire wear and fuel consumption in same tires (preferably SH) and 10 lap race the fastest lap wins. I wish I had R8 to do this.

I alluded to that in my post. I saw the race back in the day and have commented on the beating the 787's were taking pace wise [down a few laps to the Sauber C11's before they broke]. In the "game" however, not real life, the power and torque figures are not far off each other and I did upgrade the turbo which puts the 787b at 875hp which is above the R8 stock 820hp[cant remember torque figs but Im sure it favors the Audi] I can only guess that the game was running the R8 with a stage 3 turbo to be able to walk the 875hp 787b in the straights. Ive hit over 233mph with the 787b on its own no draft. With the stage 3 turbo I was expecting it to be at least as fast as the Audi R8. Man was I wrong .

The game does do a decent job simulating the lack of low rpm torque of the 787b off turns as even slower/high torque cars like the Viper GTSR etc will mug it off the turn until the rpms build. She is not the fastest Group C car by far but she is one beautiful machine.
