As I own Prologue and have played it a bit through arcade mode and the lessons... there is something that has begun to worry me...

When racing the AI you usually get 5 opponent cars against you on the racing tracks (New York, Fuji, Tsukuba (Hong Kong))... However...

If you are driving the open top cars... i.e. the Toyota MTRC and the Nissan Z Roadster you only get 1 other opponent car...

Please reassure me that this is not going to be the case in the full version of GT4?

Does the strain of having driver animations mean that we can only face one other car on the track?

The main thing to remember is that Prologue is only a demo so I wouldn't worry.

This is also worrying me abit also.

I believe this may very well be the case in GT4 as well.

Minor issue IMO. I'm just hoping for a good online experience.

You've just shot yourself in the foot though...

If it's limited to 2 for single player then you can bet your bottom dollar that it'll be limited to 2 for OLR too?

I read a few months ago, before the release of Prologue, that if you pick an opentop car and takeit to a race (with other 5 racers), the game will show the closed version of the car... And if you pick the same car but takeit to a timetrial the game shows the opentop version...

(sorry for my english ;))

What about cars that don't have a closed version? (i.e. Toyota MTRC car)

C.

I also read that if you pick these cars without closed version, you can't race with other cars... it's only for playing alone.
I read it in an spanish videogame magazine some time ago... Don't know if it's true

Well frankly that would suck...

I would much rather not have driver animation and be able to drive against others than have driver animation and TT only!!

Bugger... I did take a look around for a similar topic...

So in essence we don't know yet although people are predicting 4 cars max with tops down.

as i´ll be mostly doing time trials on the nordschleife that won´t bother me a bit!

...As i'll be mostly avoiding crappy convertibles* anyway i'll try not lose too much sleep over it.

*except caterhams, if they are in

Remember that in GT3 you could only race two cars in rally races and four in wet races. So i'd say that there is a 80-90% chance that these sorts of limitations (in this case with convertable cars) will still exist in GT4.

Unless they pull something special out of the bag.

Well hey, remember that video of the Pescarolo C60 LMP going around Fuji (old video)? It was against a full field of cars, so there is some hope. If it's true that you can only race against 1 other person in an open top car, then what will it do if you want to enter an online race with that car? It would be dumb if it didn't let you use that car online...

Also, was anyone else really bugged that you couldn't drive the Z Roadster at Grand Canyon, but you could drive the NISMO Fairlady Z Z-Tune there?

Probably the dust effects along with the driver animation....

And the Suzuki GSX-R in Concept also had a full field of six cars but all the driver did was move his/her head in gearchanges and after hitting a wall/decel/accellerating.

But you could dirve the MTRC at the grand canyon... but then again that had a CVT so didn;t need gear changing... but did do turning and braking movements...

I've never seen or heard of a convertable/droptop rally car - so PD probably stop you from using them on the rally stages, i suppose its the whole open top/dust thing.

what about the new peugeot 307 wrc? practically that´s a convertible ;)

except its folding metal roof is welded in place - not unsimilar to a normal roofed car

The only thing that worries me right now is this rash on my nu... Err... Forget that.

*gets his coat*

It has two "drivers" though. I think you can exchange a whole driver for shifting animations...

Yeah... It's probably best you leave...

Maybe we should stop and appreciate just how much this game does, rather than what it doesn't do.

Oh, well i was comparing it to the fully moving driver in the 350Z Convertable.
I still wish they'd forget about 3D crowds though. :(

I don't think you should be too worried about the convertible thing. I mentioned this stuff in some past topics, but for the most part, I don't think you should worry about it. I mean, think about it. Some of the tracks are either too thin or two overdone to even warrant six convertibles with tops down. Consider Citta di' Aria and Amalfi. I remember watching two Prologue videos featuring the Fina McLaren F1 GTR racing on the super-tight streets of Citta di Aria. There isn't enough space to even consider holding a six-car race, much less an endurance. The track is styled so beautifully and offers a serious challenge. To me, it's an Autocross course with walls, and not cones. And the person who made the video of the McLaren F1 gliding through the corners deserves a gold medal for being that brave. You know, fast car, tight streets. The Ford GT raced Amalfi in my GT4 "Prologue" link. There is WindowsMedia of two perspectives of the GT racing Amalfi. I noticed the 3D crowd with all the zooming going on. Some of those shots were so real, I almost imagine that I see the Speed Channel logo at the top right of the video screen. You know, like I'm watching WRC coverage or a car show.

But to me, too much work. The PS2 has only so much power compared to the underrated Gamecube and the overrated XBOX. The PS3 will likely have more power to do much more to make the next GT a glorious success over the PS2. I want to make a topic on that, but someone beat me to it. Anyhow, it's about power and trying to keep everything fast. That's why you'd probably fear what you are fearing now. So, don't worry about it, alright? Just look forward to GT, then be willing to purchase your own copy of GT4 once it hits the shelves. Alright? Take care.

I noticed in the Concept M5 at Citta di' Aria vid (from the GT4 videos thread) there wasn't an outline of a driver inside the car, was this just not included in 'Prologue' or...? By outline I mean a visible helmet like in GT3.

I looked into that actually as I thought that I'd seen the same thing...

However I noticed that the drivers seat and the passenger seat have different outlines when looking through the windscreen... so I theorised that these different outlines were meant to show a driver.
