Something wrong with my Dodge Challenger R/T?

I am doing this race:

Classic Muscle Car Championship
Entry Requirements:
Year: 1980 or earlier
Country: United States

Dealership:
Dodge Challenger R/T '70 - Cr. 75,000
Tuning:
Fully Customisable Transmission (Max Speed: 250KM/H) - Cr. 20,000

I've done the upgrade but my car seems to have trouble reaching top speed because there's always a triangle appearing/flashing whenever I try to go over 125. Is that a penalty for something or what because I honestly have no idea what I am doing wrong in some races with this car!

By the way I should add that 125, I have no idea if it's MPH or KMPH but it's in fifth gear though and I am able to go through the first four gears with relative ease and am in front but when it comes to Monza on the straights, my Dodge's getting raped.

Even though it's a new car?!

YUP.

Ive heard some people say even when you change the oil on a new car it will give you some more Horses.

So, im thinking, This might be the case, except, its the triange which indicates its the engine of the Dodge.

You need to upgrade to the fully customizable transmission and change the max speed gearing in the tuning options.
I don't know why but it seems that some of the classic muscle cars have their default gearing (and even the fixed 5 speed upgrade) unable to make the car hit anywhere near its top speed if it's tuned. You'll just be hitting the rev limiter much earlier.

Edit: Looks like I didn't read your entire post properly :) - you have upgraded to the customizable transmission. Have you also adjusted it under the car tuning settings? I slapped a supercharger and some other upgrades on a Challenger R/T '70 last night and it would only do 200 kph. I set the max speed for the custom transmission to 260 kph after which the car was hitting just under 250 kph at Monza.

AFAIK the white triangle is the anti-skid driving aid (or one of the aids) which keeps your wheels from spinning and losing traction. Driving aids slow you down, but keep you on the road. If you have the aid set too high (or on at all), it might think you're always about to spin out and limit the power that you can put down.

Try turning some of the anti-skid and steering aids down or off and try again.

If you still have the same problem when they're off, then I have no idea what's happening :P

NO NO NO NO NO

Its the stock transmission, you need to buy the fully adjustable one

I have not tried this but I will now. Only thing though, how do I adjust it? I am at car tuning but have no option to change anything.

But any of you guys sure it's not a penalty incurred for corner-cutting or nudging opponents off track?

And I forgot to mention that it should be a red circle next to my gear number. Eg when I am going on fifth gear, there'll be a red circle flashing when it's giving this problem. Help?

There's no penalties AFAIK doing any normal races. He needs to actually TUNE the top speed of the transmission. Just because he bought it doesn't mean he tuned it. Also, your car will NEVER hit the top speed it suggests in the menus unless you take off every assist and remove downforce. Otherwise, tune the top speed just a little higher than what you think you're getting. For example, my Mazda Furai has it's gearing set for 230 MPH, but it only hits 208 or 209 at redline. If you wanted to get closer to 230, you'd need to tune the top-speed a little higher. Each tune up on a high end car can give you maybe 4-6 MPH for every click, even though it says 6-9 MPH for every click. Keep this in mind

Can anyone please tell me where I can upgrade my car? It's my first GT game and I know the answer must be very simple and clear-cut but it's eluded me as to how I can adjust my top speed. :(

Have you already bought the race transmission from the Tuning Shop(Icon above Photo Travel)?

If you do follow these steps.

Garage>Dodge Challenger R/T>Tuning>Transmission

Than click the little dial next to "Fully Customizable Transmission" and set the top speed.

That red circle means that you have reached the limit. You're over-revving the engine at that point.

What you need to do, like everyone else is saying, is go to the tuning section and select the Fully Customizable Transmission you bought. The customizing options is that little circle on the right. You need to set the gear ratios to increase your top speed. I found that putting 5th around 0.76 really helped. (i.e. Top speed = 180mph...I think.)

I had this exact same problem as you. I was leading in the turns, then blown away in the straightaways. lol

The red blinking circle is a shift indicator. When you reach redline in any gear, it flashes to tell you to upshift. Yes, even in top gear when you can't upshift!
Anway, Justin posted the correct answer above.
Go to the little dial on the transmission (could they have made that harder to find?) and you can set you top speed there.
Just remember the faster you set your top speed, the slower your off the line acceleration will be. Ideally, you want to set the top speed so that your car reaches it just prior to the point where you need to start braking for a corner. Anything higher and you are losing valuable acceleration, anything lower and you'll be bouncing off the rev limiter in top gear.

Guys, I would just like to say thanks for all your suggestions and feedback, especially to those who asked me to increase my top speed in Tuning. I had no idea it could be done before this. Thanks!
