I can't give you first hand experience, but some hints. The sound quality of these thingies can't be compared to a proper stereo, but can be sufficient for some sound on your pc or similar. The sound very much depends on the surface you put them on however. If it is too thick, likes to rattle or you put the exciters at the wrong position, the result won't be good. If you are lucky and find a proper surface, these things can be quite okay. That opinion however is based on the fact that most people are stunned by something making music that usually doesn't. From a loudspeaker, you demand to get a decent sound, but from a poster or whatever, you don't. Therefor, the sound quality mostly isn't judged by neutral measures.

Bingo. These are really marketed as a "hey, cool!" thing than something to take on a proper stereo. If you want a decent sound system, look away. If you want to be able to play music where ever, go for it. They're only $20, and will probably be quite a bit better than your standard portable speakers, but not as good as your sound system, basically :) (Personally, I wish I could find a use for a set...)
