Pretty lame considering my PS3 was $600 and my new one costs $400.

A little background: My Blu-Ray drive stopped reading discs so I went to Sony's website and filled out the form with my serial number. A few days later they sent a box to send the broken one to them. I hadn't actually gotten around to sending it when the replacement arrived. So I currently have a broken 80GB, and 40GB replacement which is worth $100 less ($200 less for me because the price hadn't dropped when i got the 80GB.) is there anybody I can call or do I just have to 'suck it up' and lose $100 because their system broke? 👎 Not impressed at all.

I would definately call them up and rip them apart but you could also switch the HDD in your 80GB over to your 40GB for the extra space and you still have the 40GB HDD but you still don't have BC and missing some ports which is fixable.

I thought M$ was the only bonehead company to do something like this. That sucks dOOd. Call and complain.

Maybe just an administrative error on their part?
Just give them a call. If you don't complain, how will they even know?

Complaining will get you nowhere. Call them and explain the situation, don't immediately jump down the first person you talk to's throat. You know - the whole catch more flies with honey saying. If you're a prick right out of the gate who comes out swinging, someone will dig in their heels and just keep repeating "I'm sorry, sir. There's nothing I can do about it."

wrong
if you have some consumer laws in your country you can defend yourself and they must obey the rules. in this case they should give the difference as cash. but no matter what they'll do to recover your satisfaction a 40gb wont equal to a 80gb one. 40gb cant play ps2 games. 80gb does.

That's what i meant by complaining.

You can complain by being a total ****head or being polite.
Second works best.

Screw getting money back. If I bought an 80gigger, I want an 80gig replacement, not a 40 and cash.

I understood what you meant. Consider my post a clarification to your post, not a rebuttal. :)

Call Sony and complain! Must be a mix up/error, because they SHOULD replace 60GB with 60GB, 40GB with 40GB, 80GB with 80GB and 20GB with 20GB!

Obviously the 60GB and 20GB replacements will def be refurbished units and not brand new ones.

I would definatley bring this up with Sony, you should be entitled to a system equal to or better than the one which has failed.

Like if you have an original 60 with EEGS Sony should replace it with an identical one (they have stock piles even though its not sold anymore) or give you an 80 instead....

I would be so pissed if they gave me a 40!

Yup! 110% agree with this! Esp the part in red bold writing!

Atleast they sent you a working unit, I just got my 2nd replacement and it still doesn't work. I was as calm as possible but it's hard not to scream at someone, only reason I didnt was I was eating bacon.

:odd:

I'm going to call them later today and see what's up. Going the polite route (I never yell at cust. service anyway.) Thanks for the input guys. Maybe they'll replace it with a MGS4 PS3.

The thread's title was a tongue-in-cheek reference to Pako's thread, by the way. ;)

:D Sorry your exchange didn't work out as sweet as others I know.....

They should replace it with a "like" or better product, not a downgraded product. I'm sure it was a mistake and not deliberate (hopefully).

Quite honestly, I was afraid of something like that happening to me if I sent in my 60gb.

Hey where'd you find the serial number to get your replacement? Please don't tell me under the UPC... :(

The serial number is on the back of the console, on a white piece of tape.

Chris.

Oh ok, thanks. Phew. I was always worried that i wouldn't be able to call Sony to replace my PS3 since i sent my UPC for that damn free blu-ray movies deal...

Wife Drive Swap! If they complain, tell them they should have given you an equal drive back *shrugs* That sux TIME Would your ps3 read ANY discs, or none whatsoever game over?
