Sony in serious trouble?

The only thing that has really been bothering me about Sony's System updates, is still no in game chat with other players through the XMB like the 360. (Different games) You still need to exit your current game to have a voice chat!

That feature was added later on for 360. That is a cool feature and Sony may introduce it sometime since they update their software more frequently than MS.

Also the Ps3 year delay was the lack of software not a hardware issue. It was wise move as a $600 system with few quality games would have had a very rough first impression on the market.

Yep I'm pretty sure my brother's Zune is not affected. I try turning on the Zune and the battery was dead so he sure was not using it during last night.

What? That's exactly what Joey said...

Once again; what? Joey's post was simply stating that the two consoles are on a level playing field after the same amount of time.
His point was the same as mine, I am not dissagreeing with his point. I was posting regarding his quote of my comment. He made a point of taking one comment of mine which was part of a larger point and post and made it sound like I was implying that the PS3 is in a much better situation than the 360 was at the same stage in it's life. My entire post was that the situations were not that dissimilar if you look at them both properly but he still quoted one part that on it's own makes my point seem negative towards to the XB360. Anyway I think it was clearly just out of missunderstanding as his point was ultimately the same as mine as you just said. I was just making my position clear.

I don't really think the blu-ray deal was a big thing. Downloads are the future, netflix will take over, and look who has that. I bet blu-ray lasts maybe 2 more years, and then it will be a novelty item. Why would anyone pay 30$ to own a blu-ray disk, when they can download an hd movie for 6$. Right now downloads are only 720p, but I'm sure that in a few years it will jump to 1080p.
I just wanted to follow up on this point regarding Blu-Ray not being a big deal.

It is catching on faster than DVD did.

Blu-ray's first two years outpaces DVD's

The success of DVD is the kind that consumer electronics manufactures dreamed of, and now after two years after the introduction of Blu-ray, it appears to be gaining steam even faster -- and during the worst economic crisis of our time. According to Richard Greenfield of Pali Capital, in two years there were about 1.2 million DVD players sold, whereas Blu-ray stand-alone player sales are estimated to be at 2.5 million -- no this doesn't include PS3s which are expected to be at 8 million. Of course choosing between a $129 DVD upconverter and a $199 Blu-ray player isn't that hard of a choice, but paying 30 percent more for a movie is. The news here isn't bad for Blu-ray either as it has managed to almost double its market share of the top 20 titles in the past six months. We have a feeling the members on the panel at the BDA press conference this Thursday at 7pm EST -- which we'll be covering live -- will have a few things to smile about.

Wait, if I read this correctly the 360 is using a Cell chip? Or is it just the core? In all honesty if Microsoft had just had a standard processor put in it wouldn't have changed anything.

The 360 uses three general-purpose cores, each one similar to the Cell's single PPE. I don't see how it affects Sony much, as the Cell's crown jewel is the eight or so specialized SPEs.

I would have expected IBM to not backstab a partner like this, in the end its all about the money again $$$. Sony to was to ignorant clearly...

That's why Apple told IBM to piss off. They made the switch to Intel as soon as the Microsoft-IBM deal was done.

I'd take anything from WSJ with a grain of salt, though. Almost everything they've printed has been garbage since Murdoch bought it.

It wasn't really that "soon". Microsoft-IBM Xbox360 CPU deal was reached in December 2002. Apple's Intel transition announcement was in June 2005 at the WWDC.

It changes week on week, frankly. The PSP did hit a point where it was selling more than everything else combined for a week... It wouldn't surprise me if the DS spiked back again - we bought two for Christmas

The DS is popular among kids it aint even funny. We got one for each of the kids last Spring. after first buying thePSP for my daughter. She wanted aDS so badly that after we bought the first one for my son we had to get the girl one. Basically I bought me pink DS and offered to trade it for her PSP. I love the PSP for surfingthe web at the doctor's office or anywhere else it will pick up a wifi signal and for Skype and racing games. the kids like the fact that they can chat with all their freinds who haveDSs as well as "DS downloading" games with freinds. When I talk to other parents its always the same...more interactive features for a lower cost. That is the DS is cheaper tha the PSP and offers more interaction between consoles making it a better portable console for smaller school kids

As for the original topic... Sony is doing just fine as is the PS3. I too am waiting for the"year of thePS3" and thought this year would be it but hey lets hope 2009 will be. Also just because the 360 sells for $199, doesn't mean that Microsoft is out gunning Sony. MOST 360 owners I have ever talked to have had to return their consoles ATLEAST once. The failure rate is staggering. That said I wouldnt mind seeing the PS3 come down in price abit.

I agree thatPD is dragging its feet with GT5, and I truly hope they make it better than the GT5P $40 demo.I enjoyed GT3 and 4, but am seriously looking to see how realistic they will make it.I have been playing TOCA2&3 as well as GRID for long enough to demand a certain amount performance from a race game. When the car hits the wall it should bend not bounce off unscathed. Also cars should not slow down in acorner unless YOU are slowingit down. Hopefully it will be better than GT4
