With the pre-orders out (here in Canada), I really dont think the PSP is worth $400 CAD. If it had atleast a 5 gig internal hard drive, maybe it would be worth the money. Having to buy an 1 GB or 512MB Memory stick for an extra $150-250 just doenst seem to practical. Paying $200-250 for 1 GB doesnt make alot of sense. Although I find the PSP to be pricy, who said I still don't find it sexy and probably will end buying it down the road

But you have to take into account the screen and all the production costs. Anyway, new games hardware is always fairly expensive to begin with.

Isn't there a thread on this already. Might be abit old though.

You have to take into consideration what the PSP actually is. Yeah sure it plays mp3s, mp4s, displays jpgs, plays umd movies, but really it is primerally a gaming machine. IMO it's worth every penny. I'm definitely going to get one. GT4 Mobile looks awesome, as do most of the other games. Bear in mind also that it's only going to get better as more things come out for it.

I'll be getting one, but not immediately. First generation electronics aren't always reliable and they're also a lot more expensive.

I have the same thought on the PSP. I will wait until the price drops and some solid games come out (not saying that there won't be on release, but GT4 is a big one that won't be there on release). I also don't want to pay that price and have a machine that I will eventually have to send back because of problems.

I have my PSP reserved and paid off. Just like with the PS2, I'll be one of the few who will have it on launch day.

I even bought a 256MB Memory Stick Duo Pro and a Sony MDR-EX71SL Fontopia headphones to accesorise my PSP. I'll be able to test out it's capablity on a little road trip my co-workers and I are taking on Easter Sunday.

All of what you say is true. However:

1. Sony is giving a one year warranty for the PSP. Most electronic items break within this time period.
2. They are fixing Japanese PSPs for free. I don't know why they would shut us out of this.

First 1 million PSP's come in a value pack. Headphones too.

Yeah, but those pack-in headphones suck, and the pack-in memory stick is only 32MB.

These Fontopia earbuds sound very good.

I think EGM(magazine) said that PSP retailed in Japan for around $180. Just when I thought I was going to get one, I heard something about PSP being available only in the "pack"(probably the one, Acid X mentioned) and it bumps up the cost to $250, because it comes with the case, memory stick/card(?) and the earphone-remote.

New electronics always retails for more in Japan, so if PSP was retailing in Japan for $180, it should be lower than that in the states. My question is, is it the expensive memory stick/card, that's bumping up the price of the pack?

That's true, they'll fix it, but the turnaround time is a minimum of 2-3 weeks for a repair order where I am. My camera took more than a month to get back from their service place 👎

I'm gonna try to get one for free through that Gratis network thing. TechTV and Wired magazine both claim they're on the up and up. All I did was sign up for a Discover card so it didn't cost me anything. If I don't get 5 referrals by the time GT4 Mobile comes out, I'll just buy the PSP, but I figured 20 minutes of my time was worth the gamble.

Wow that is so cool! Mr. Jackson owns! :O

Back on topic! :O

I really think that the PSP is really worth it because of all the cool things you can do with it. My favorite feature of the PSP is to be able to transfer my favorite Supra music videos into the gizmo with the help of PSP Video 9! :O Transfer the exact same quality to the little LCD. :O NEVER GETS BORING!!! :O

The title said "Michael Quest", and it was mostly based on my favorite RPG series "Dragon Quest" and one of the best games ever created, "Super Mario Bros." Yesssssss!

What the eff? That link has changed since I posted it months ago.

I got my pre-order pack from Game today.

This includes a to-scale cardboard PSP which contains lots of little cards with information on the games and accessories that are coming out, and a DVD with footage of the games coming out.

There were a few other small things too. :)

What the hell is the point of that? Suppose you could stick it ontop a GB SP though :dunce:

I suppose it's for people who don't have internet access (which most do) or for people who don't buy game magazines. The videos and pictures you see in the package are exactly the same as you see on the internet. So it's pointless to me then.

I finally saw a PSP being played this past weekend. Most impressive. Not worth 250$, but very slick.

Not worth $250 new but worht $200 used. The value pack is full of crap you dont need. use the $50 savings to get a 256MB Memory Stick.
