Just announced, and after 2 years of secrecey, Sony announces that nVidia will be powering the PS3 graphics. Of course, nVidia says, take the PS2 graphics, and do 2 x 50 to get the graphics of the PS3. nVidia will be making this new graphics chip only for Sony, and that this chip will be their top of the line graphics chip, beating out that of their dual 6800 ultras.

Now, about the 50 x2. This means that the PS3 will be 50 times more powerful than the PS2. The chip will also be custom.

EA, that famous near monopolizing game maker, has already shown off 2 pics for what they are hoping their games to look like. If you have the latest PSM, you'll see them.

1 is of their 1st Madden title, and the other of their first NFS title for the PS3. They aren't the real deal, but EA says, they could possibly be. Best yet, EA's new NFS title won't be taking the underground route. Instead, EA is taking NFS back home. I'm sure you all know what that means.

Sony says nVidia will be doing this b/c Sony feels they are way to behind in the market to produce their own. nVidia says those shots are extremely possible, as this new chip will be worked on by only the best of their company.

PSM reports since GT4 is already one of the best looking games now, imagine what GT5 will do, since most PS3 games are expected to look somewhat close to the 2 shots. KY has plans for GT5 and PS3.

EDIT: Read back over the article some more, and found out that nVidia has some little secret to get a head of the competition. This little secret probably won't be announced for an extremely long time.

Unfornately, word has it that US gamers will get the PS3 some time after Japan, but that European gamers will have to wait a great amount of months. This is just a rumor though, so it may or may not happen.

Jan 6, 2005 - EA and Vivendi Universal Games Join the Blu-ray Disc Association

The Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) today announced that two leading game publishers, Electronic Arts (EA Games) and Vivendi Universal Games (VU Games), have joined the BDA. "The delivery of high-definition games is becoming increasingly important to us. Blu-ray Disc has the capacity, functionality and interactivity we need for the kinds of projects we have in mind." said Scott Cronce, Electronic Arts Worldwide Studio CTO. "The technical requirements for game development today demands more advanced optical-disc technologies. Blu-ray Disc offers the capacity, performance and high-speed Internet connectivity to take us into the future of gaming." said Michael Heilemann, Chief Technology Officer, VU Games. The support from these two leading game publishers further strengthens the already overwhelming support for the Blu-ray Disc format among the world's leading gaming, consumer electronics, PC and entertainment companies.

Unfornately, someone poorly scanned these, so they don't look their best.

Wow, that sounds very good. I like nVidea and think they could do a VERY good job. Are these pictures anywhere online yet?

I'm also happy to hear NFS is going back to 'normal', hopefully it's half decent game though ;)

I wonder if nVidia will somehow implement their SLI technology in the PS3. Maybe offer SLI as a do-it-yourself-or-pay-50-bucks-to-someone-certified-to-do-it upgrade down the line. That would be sweet.

You mean NFS wasn't a stupid game before it became a stupid game? Anyways that Porshe shot looks awesome!!!

The NFS one is still pretty impressive, they both look pretty darn real .

I don't know. Would be nice. nVidia says they're extremely happy about being with Sony.

Old news, but here's something new to go with it.

It's certainly no surprise that EA says it'll support Blu-Ray.. they've always had very strong ties to the Playstation systems.

To be honest, I doubt we'll be seeing stuff quite like those images right off the bat. The PS3 may well be capable of it (at least the Porsche pic, not sure about the football), but we probably won't be seeing it in the first generation of titles. It'll be like the first-gen PS2 games.. they were basically PS1 games running at a higher resolution with a higher polygon count. It was only later that they really started to figure out the system and we started seeing more and more impressive stuff come out of it. It'll be the same way for the PS3.

Yeah, a few months ago I popped a PS game into the PS2. When I used to play this game I thought the graphics were great, now I look at them and I think I've seen better looking cars drawn by a 5 year old . It's just crazy how fast things go.

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

Yep yep! :O This remind me of what I thought about the future. Future gamers will play games with amazing graphics and would probably NEVER EVER play any 2D game....It's like the days when our parents were playing Pac-Man, they thought the graphics were great. Then when the world of 3D comes, we are born and somehow don't wanna play a cheesy Pac-Man! :dopey:

Are you mocking Pac Man? That game rules!

Ahem sorry...

I can't imagine graphics getting that much better than they are now, they obviously are but I fin it hard to comprehend what they'll be like in years to come.

I think the main improvements over the next 10- 15 years, graphics-wise, are going to be in the areas of draw-distance, impact animation, geo-mod (red faction) type world damage, and such things.

Screenshots like the above seem to be as detailed as we could need in a game, but I said the same thing when the PS2 games were new.

I can't imagine 20 years from now, looking back on these PS3 graphics and seeing them as primitive...
