Something struck me while doing the Laguna Seca enduro today.....a lot of the cars sound very alike and there aren't many that have an individual exhaust tone.
This set me thinking so when I'd finished I decided to see which member of my garage sounds the best.

It ended up being a dead heat between the Speed 12 and the Tickford XR8.

What do you think sound nicest?

(out of all your cars, not just those 2)

Nice picks... :D

My list has the Speed 12, Tickford Falcon, Lister Storm (try it) and Aston Martin Vanquish on the bass end and the 787B on the treble.

Also good are the Shelby Cobra and any other TVR... :D

I think the GT40 sounds really high...but I think there is some car that makes a high whine...can't remember though...:banghead:

Yeh, but the for example, Cobra's pitch stays really low, even with a racing exhaust...

Dodge - it's the Mazda 787B... All it needs is a huge robot to get out of it, and Patricia Neal shouting "Gort! Klaatu barada nikto!"...

(subtle joke for the oldies there)

Ah ok...but going on the in view on Test Course makes any car sound like an airplane...:) Oh...just remembering now, that car's is a whiner...and the Toyota GT-One is the same.

i agree with dodge the viper, the gt40 & esperante are great. i also love the 787B. i like the spoon civic R. all NA F1's are my favorites.

Here is something you must do! -> buy an Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 v6.... then buy the racing exhaust and maybe a stage 1 NA .... then go to testcourse and listen to it !!!! -> pure italian class !!!!

Let me know what you think of it .... for me it is one of the best

Its one of the Opel touring cars.. i think the calibra, but it could be the astra.

yeah I forgot about the Vanquish, thats nice.

I only got a 787B last night after I posted, or it would have been on my list as well, 'cos that IS unique!

Haven't got a Lister Storm as yet, just reached 75% last night.

You should hear the Australian V8 Supercars in real-life - I'm not a huge fan of the formula, but they sound glorious - not disimilar to the GT3 sound, but MUCH louder and deeper.

the V8 supercars (in real life) sound very deep and throaty and i love it when they pop a big flame in front of ya, sounds great

Well I do watch all those races on MotorsTV on satellite so I know what you mean, they sound superb.

Indeed - they sound very throaty and 'roaralicious'.

The best bits are the in-car views, and you can hear the engine, and when they go around a corner and blow flames in front of ya. :D

Jez - me too... :D Now I got a video transmitter/receiver I can watch Sky from the comfort of my bed... I quite enjoy watching the Australian V8s, but also the Australian GTP series - it's like Gran Turismo but with more cars. There's RX-7s, Evos 4-8, Scoobies, BMW M3 and Z3, Holdens - great stuff... :D

Hey guys i have not heard any one say RGT:D This motor sounds like a beast unleashed i think its one of the greatest purs on the game;)

They do, but it's not the same as real life. Having seen rallies on TV and in real life, I can tell you that the sound on a broadcast is never more than a thin facsimile.

Sure, you get the buzzing and yowling on TV, but it lacks the body and dynamics of a live event. You also don't hear the tremendous *WHUMP* of a 2000 lb.+ car landing after a jump at 60-70 MPH. \m/

So yeah, I recommend seeing a race live. :D

As for GT3 -

Aston Martin Vanquish

TVR Speed 12

Mazda 787B

Acura Integra Type R (Japanese) Then again, I own an Integra so I may not be impartial on this one. :trouble:

I miss the Mk.III Supra from GT2, though. That was one evil sounding car when tricked out. It would growl and crackle at low engine speed, and had this otherworldly nasal yowl at full throttle.

I watched British GT at Snetterton once - stood down on the Esses at the end of Rivett's. The McLaren F1 GTR coming down there sounded EXACTLY like a flypast from an F15 Eagle...

Second that. TV destroys the sound. F1 enters a whole new dimension live; especially downshifting. The Benettons would sound like shot guns firing as they entered Turn 1 at Indianapolis. Waaaaaaa ... BOOM!! ... Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom ... Waaaaa. Every now and then they shot a flame out to the rear wing.

Also, you need to experience NHRA Nitro Methane Drag Raging. At 5000+ HP, you actually FEEL the sound as it rockets past at 300+ MPH.

Then there's the fuel buring your eyes ...
