Hello guys!

I didnt really care about the astronomy features when i first heard about it. I thought that it was cool that they would map the stars exactly like they where in real life but i didnt think it would have such a impact on how the game looked in night time.

All i have to say is that i was wrong. Just did a few laps on Spa with the time set to 23:50 and god it looks good! It doesnt look this good on any other track ive tested. It really adds the the experience when driving at night, atleast thats my opinion.

I really want you guys to try it out for yourself if you havent already. :)

(Im sorry if there already is a thread about this)

The stars in the moon missions are also accurate.
I think they have accurate stars on all tracks including the moon? but that was not my point. The reason i think it looks good is not because the stars are accurate. I just think it looks incredible!

Yes, I agree, the astronomy effect does add a nice effect to the game but I still wish they would have focused these efforts into other aspects/features of the game.

For the purposes of human life times, the stars don't change very much. So they likely just got a static 2d image for the stars like google does. hardly takes much effort or resources but adds a nice touch to the game.

I doubt many people will be complaining the stars are no longer accurate in 500,000 years playing gt6. But perhaps PD will release a patch by then

EDIT:damn I think autocorrect kept saying starts instead of stars lol

Not going to argue about it as I was just stating my opinion. :)

I dont think they said:
-Lets map accurate stars instead of putting in a 10000 cars more and have next gen graphics!!
:D

No need to be a smartass, its really not needed. As I've said before, I was just giving my opinion and not meant to start an argument, so don't get your panties in a bunch.

I was just joking. Sorry if i offended you, because it was not my intention at all.

No, you didn't offend me at all. It just seemed like you were jumping on my back because I had a differing opinion of things here. If that wasn't the case, then we're all good. 👍 My apologies for misinterpreting your post.

It does look impressive but you couldn't see that many stars IRL last night. You could see Orion's belt, the big dipper and things like that but sadly not the myriad of stars depicted in the image above.

I can see the milkyway in real life, looks just like whats in the game. Find some dark skies! My other hobby is astrophotography :)

Thats the problem through. With all the lights from the track, you probably won't have a very dark sky. Perhaps the Nurburgring may be an exception, at least on the most remote parts of the course, but it doesn't take much light pollution at all to make the vast majority of the stars impossible to see.

Yea, it is impressive. Usually the kind of "fluff" I don't care for in racing games. But being a bit of a space nerd as well the accurate star positions hits a chord with me. I love reminding my few FM5 playing friends at how cool it is to run Spa at night while they're stuck in static always the same time, same weather, same clouds Spa on the supposed next-gen Forza. :)

Yes, the sky looks awesome....good job PD....(hearty pat on the back)

Now that the scenery is taken care of, im sure they are working on more important things..like interactive spectators in photo mode. Imagine...

Me..."how you like my jaguar xj13"
Spectator male.."dude how rich are you...that car is dope!!!"
Me.."cost me 20million bucks dude"
Spec male..."oh sweet mother trucker, can you take me for a ride?"
Me..."**** that, im here to take some pictures"
Spec female...."take me...now!!!"

I wish they modeled the size and luminosity of the moon based on where it is on the horizon.

And that you could zoom in and get a clear shot of earth in photo mode from the moon...

I do wonder if GT 6 has a real calendar and the sky reflects that reality.

I bet it will be amazing in GT 7 with a higher res skybox and full luminosity.

Have a look at the credits. They used a lot of resources to get the stars correct.
Like what, pointing a camera at the sky? There's no reason to try to "simulate" any of that, it's just a skybox. Sure, you can set rotation and such based on location and time of day, but that's not exactly difficult, anyone can go to Google and download a hundred programs that can do that for free. And I suppose you could waste a few cycles locking down the position of the visible planets (single points in any event), but I doubt anyone would notice. And nothing would change going to the moon... the perspective is the same (if you think the distance from the Earth to the moon is even remotely significant to anything, you know nothing about astronomy).

Yes, but the dynamic part means that if you were to retake that photo at Spa in 6 months you will see different stars in the sky based on the stars overhead in Belgium in June. I'm in the same time zone as Daytona and see the same stars in the game as I see outside my house. It still probably doesn't take much wizardry to make this happen but it's a neat touch.

Yeah, I'm sure it's worth 3 years of work and millions of dollars it took to make on their side and it's totally worth 60 bucks on our side.

It's not really an effort, each star render is very very small and there are a number of ways they could have approached preparing the overall sky renders. Games have had realistic (and navigable) star maps since the nineties, we're just lucky enough to see it in a recent iteration.

Look at the Credts (somewhere around half-way down the list) when you click the start button in the GT6 start menu. PD needed and used at least five sources to help assist them with the constellation. The moon came out of whim (which may have initiated this accurate star constellation "project".

Haha what on Earth for? Or "off Earth", I should say. You only needed one person in 1827... in 2013 that should still be just one person plus one coder with a reasonable grasp of trig.
