Spec 2.0 update via USB stick?

A friend of mine lives in an area with very very poor internet connection, and I believe the 1192mb update would actually put him over his usage limit...

So is there a way to download this Spec2.0 update to a USB memory stick and then plug it into the PS3 and update the game that way? It'd be easier for him to do it that way compared to bringing in his PS3 to work... haha!
 
How would you put the patch on a USB stick?
Btw, I don't think it would work.
The game itself searches for update when online I think.
 
I know that you can download PS3 Firmware updates from the PS3 site and copy to a USB and download, i don't think this works with GT5.

That's exactly what I'm asking.... can it be put onto a usb stick and uploaded to ps3 via said usb stick....
 
You can not save game updates to USB sticks, it has to be done directly when the game starts up. PS3 updates can be done this way but not game updates.
He will have to take his PS3 to work.
