Special License Final Test(S8)

I have been trying to pass the Special license for ages now. I have been able to plow right throught all the other tests except for the S8. How in hell can you pass the hardest course in the game in 1`35``00 in one of the worst handling cars in the game. Am I doing something wrong? Do you have any tips for passing that test?

Are you spinning sideways coming out of the corners? With so many turns, keep in mind the buttons are pressure-sensitive. If you mash the gas while turning it's easy to spin, so press X slowly when coming out the corner. And of course, check the demo. You have to BELIEVE. Be one with the track, don't fight it. I see the S-license in your future... Now THAT'S some advice. Inspirational, too!
 
sorry. The only other advice that i have is try completing the coruse no matter what and then look at the demo car race your ghost.
 
I agree a little too hard, sine everything else in the game is easier.
 
Actually, if you're good enough to get all the way to the S-8 test, I'm surprised it's giving you this much grief... Some of the other tests took me longer to pass. And you'll probably hate me for telling you, but I passed S-8 second try. I've heard others say the same.
 
Here's what I did for every test - race it once as an automatic transmission. When you're done, exit out so that your race is saved as a ghost. Then keep doing this (race, exit, race again) and keep trying to beat the ghost. If you keep doing this and still aren't gaining enough time, try doing it with a manual transmission. You can squeeze a little more power out of the car if you do this, and I've often saved a couple seconds on some of my times. Using this method I've got all the licenses, all B Gold, and all but 2 A Gold. So it works for me.

I just got my S-8 last night and your right, it's a bit*h, there's no doubt about it. Here's just a couple of tips for ya:

* thespiral has a pretty good strategy - (I have to have gosts, I always drive faster when there's a car infront of me).
*  Watch the demo - set the replay options so you can see the speed, gears, gas-brake, and stearing.  Watch it in 1st person view.  Study how the demo takes the corners - combitations of gas, brake, working the redline like a mad man.
*  If you get too frustrated, turn off the PS2, step away for a couple of hours and come back to it.

That's what worked for me - good luck.
 
First off, the GT-ONE is not a bad handling car by any stretch of the imagination.  It handles great at high speeds.  The trick is not running into stuff at those speeds.  This is in fact the most difficult race in the game.

here are my tips.
1) use an AUTOMATIC transmission (let the flames begin!) there is no shame in not being able to shift fast enough by hand.  I got a silver medal with an automatic.

2) Watch the demo and laugh at it.  The guy in the demo was playing with an old school ps1 controller with no analog buttons or stick.  He's REALLY good.

3) Drive aggressively.  You can alwasy restart.

4) race your ghosts and inch toward victory.

5) get a gt-one race car, leave it as you get it, and do the mistral 78 lap race.  By the end of it you will be able to rock it out with your cock out.

6) Have sex before you play.  Its easier to concentrate and drive smoothly. (took 9 seconds off my time)

 I HAVE GOLD! ON MY S-8 AND DID IT BY USING MANUAL  . MY ADVICE IS TO TRY MANUAL AND KEEP RACING YOUR GHOST AND ANOTHER HINT IS TO KEEP THE GEARS IN 3rd FOR THE BENDS IT HANDLES A LOT BETTER WITHOUT SKIDDING EVERYWHERE HOPE THAT HELPS YOU ON YOUR QUEST.
 
Congrats bluedawn, good job MrP! And BrianC, I wish I'd seen your advice before I got the licenses! #6 would give me a good excuse to use with the g/f! (Huh-huh, he said 'drive smoothly..') Or do you really need the other person? I'm half tempted to re-start my game...

It took me 2 1/2 hr to pass this S8 test and CrackHoor is right, spinning the tires will make your time go much higher.  I had to learn to use the pressure-sensitive button on the gas.  mr persistance is right too, manual will work too.  In real life, auto trans will lose 20% of the powers to the wheels.

i am speaking with the experience of years playing my favorite  track with f1s.  My tips:

Learn the track by hard and try to keep the racing line.

Use manual and as crackHoor mentioned try to keep 3rd gear in the midd corners as the car does not slide and spin so much and eventually you loose time.

Use 2nd to the tight chicane before the tunnel. without pressing full gas, just role the car and wait until exiting the final corner..

TRY taking the corners by utilising all the space of the road, and do that by taking the WIDEST possible line in entering a corner, then kiss the APEX( if barriers) and exit smoothly by increasing the throttle.



For the other guys: time with F90/s 1:13:500

 
I think this was the easiest.  But anyways try this.   Do the endurance race for that board even if it is not a similar car this will help you learn the lines.  Also the first corner is the most important.   If done wrong it will slow you by 3 secs.  Otherwise practice.

Not bad pao.  Got about 4 sec. on me in my F090/S.  BTW, did you know that pao in hawaiian means Chizel or Cave?  Just a little Hawaiian education for ya.

 
When doing tests (and racing), keep in mind that the most important corner on ANY course is the corner right before the longest strightaway. It's true, ya know!
 
I recently passed it and here are a tip that might help.

Be aggressive, don't be scared of the walls, it doesn't matter if you hit them as long as you don't hit them too hard. If in F1 they hit the barriers then why shouldn't you.
 
If you find yourself going too fast and are using automatic and DONT want to go into the next gear, press L2 and R2. It will stay in the same gear, controlling speeds.

Also, DO NOT go below third gear! I tried that, and after about 4 times I got it.
