Speed of steering response to D3 input?

Since I got my Formula GT and can see my front wheels I have noticed how slowly they react to my steering inputs on my D3 controller. Lock to lock is very slow. Especially in a tight chicane. Steering is also progressive with slow speed which makes it easier to control at higher speeds(at 20mph full left steering on controller gives full 90 degrees rotation in on screen wheel but at 150mph, full left steering on controller gives only about 20-30degrees rotation in on screen steering wheel).

Any way to remove this soft center/progressive/slow steering response to the D3 controller? I am very coordinated. I am not an 8 year old who needs this kind of help/intervention.

With an actual steering wheel, will the wheel on screen turn as quickly as you turn the physical wheel and will the game let you turn the wheel all the way left or right at full speed?
 
Is it annoying with the slow response, with the DS3.

When I lose control, I know I can catch the car, but with the DS3's slow response, I can't catch the car, and end up crashing. =/
 
Such a "control filter" is highly desirable (though not necessary) for steering with a joystick; almost all racing games use it, whether they're a sim or not. However, I agree that the way it works is less than ideal in GT5. There's no way to fix it, as far as I know.

I only ran into trouble with slow steering on the DS3 in extreme oversteer situations in certain cars, where the slow reaction of the driver could cause overcorrection (like DriftingDonuts said). I just took it easier in cars that did this, and used lighter, more frequent "tapping" of the stick to help keep the car stabilized. Wish I could offer a better solution.

I don't know how a gaming wheel would behave, as I didn't get a chance to try one with GT5, but I haven't heard complaints about it.
 
This filter is totally rubbish, you're forced to use the same driving style regardless of the car you are driving.

I've been using an old ps2 pad to play rfactor on my pc for 2 years.
In rfactor what you do on the controller is what happens to the wheel. sure it took a few days to get used to it but afterwards it gave me so much control I was easily beating wheel users online.

There are several modes for the wheel , why didn't pd made it for controllers too?

What pd is saying actually is . if you're using a controller you probably can't drive anyway so why give you a simulation mode?
 
The Input-lag is extremely noticable when driving the X1.
It's not that big of a deal with the other cars but have fun trying the Vettel-challenges with the DS3...
 
Yeah, I am beating my head against a wall on the Cote race in the Formula Gt Championship. I have placed first in all the other races except for Cote d Azur.

Up until now, when a car would get loose and the rear come out, I thought my reactions were not quick enough to save it but it's just this crap filter for the controller.

I think I will postpone it until I get a good wheel and pedal rig.

I like the soft center and progressive steering but make it adjustable and at least make the "steering servo" fast enough to keep up with the input. There is a need for soft center and progressive but there is no need for lag.

In R/C cars, they have computerized remotes that have soft center and progressive steering but it's optional and adjustable and most importantly, the servo is fast enough to keep up with the remote inputs.
