I'm looking into getting a speedpass for my fuel stops. I rack up nearly $200 a month in fuel costs. Luckily alot of that is work mileage, so I can get reimbursed for it.

Rarely do I ever use cash at a gas station.

What I'm wondering is how many of you (if any) use a speedpass. Are there benefits that you've noticed? or has there been something that swayed you from using it/

Any info I can collect would be appreciated.

Thanks,
AO

I don't have one, I don't use Moblie gas. I don't see much difference then what I use for my tolls. Down here in Florida its called the Sunpass, and it can be used on any toll highway in the state of Florida. Basiclly you give them your charge card and they give you the device so you can go through a lane without stopping.

The way the payment system works is they take 50.00 and when the balance gets below 10 dollars, they charge another 50.00. Does the speedpass work the same, or does it charge your card when you use it?

If it charges the card when you use it, whats the difference between paying with a speedpass, or just using your card at the pump. Is there really that much savings in time?

I would ask myself whether its worth giving yet another company access to charge my card whenever, or if its just the same thing if I do it myself.

Did I make any sense? Probably not, but I am bored at work, and I thought I would see if I could BS myself through this. Kill some time.

We use it and love it. A great invention.

My dad's gastrophobic...if it's not Mobil or Amaco or QT, he will just keep driving till one comes up to one. Something about the gas being different at each...seems silly to me, but it's gas.

My dad got a speed pass for Exxon (same difference). He loves it. Everytime he goes to the gas station he always has to look for his Debt Card (he really doesn't use cash at gas stations). But now his speedpass account is the same as that Debt Card so all he has to do is swipe it by the little tiger, put in his pin number, and wait for the light to go on.

The only thing that might be a problem is if you lost it, someone else might use it. That's not a problem for my dad, because he has to enter his Pin Number every time (like I said, its his Debt Card). Hope that helped :)

Yea, it can be a problem if you lose it.

I remember when my mom first got it, my dad was gonna use it to fill up the MPV and he started trying to swipe it at the computer part where you insert a credit card lol. We had to help him out with that one...

Speedpass?

Maybe our "state" (denial) hasn't been blessed with this yet, or I just haven't been paying attention. Probably a combination of all three.

I use a credit card at the gas station, like a normal weirdo.

Speedpass was invented by Mobil several years ago (maybe longer?) as a way to quickly pay for gas there-- you setup an account with them, and they give you a thing that looks like a "knobless" key that you wave over the senser to automatically pay for your gas... works sort of like a credit card, I guess.

Anyway, I don't have a clue if it's worth it... my dad only buys Arco, since Arco's gas is always about $0.05-0.10 cheaper per gallon than any other station in southern CA. :)
