My uncle is planning on getting a new sports car, but he doesn't know which one. I showed him a used Aston DB9, but he said he didn't like the secondary grille, so I showed him an XK, but he said it was too much like the DB9.
So, I've decided to ask the kind folk of GT Planet, does anybody know of a car that ticks all of these boxes?

1. Budget 0 - 60k
2. Amazingly beautiful
3. Fast, as he wants to compete in track days
4. Quite gentlemanly
5. Good build quality
6. Half decent reliability
7. Not a 911, he wants to stand out

Thank you.

Oh, almost forgot, it can be used or new. :D

I was going to suggest a Corvette because, if I recall correctly, the higher up versions are in that price range, but that's in USD, and I have no idea what kind of access you have to them in Ireland.

Plus I wouldn't exactly call it gentlemanly, the Corvette is a bit of a beast to say the least.

Not looked at your own username lately?

Presumably he won't like any Aston or Jag then (why you'd ignore such great cars based purely on the grille is beyond me, but hey, it's his money).

Ferrari F355 or 550 would be my first suggestion, assuming he can live with the maintainence costs, which will be high like any Ferrari.

Possibly some sort of 4dr Bentley? Arnage etc.

Maserati? Not sure how reliable these are, but I can't imagine them being worse than Ferraris, so you've got the 4200/Gransport or Quattroporte.

Suggestions I think might violate one or two points:

  • Mercedes Benz SL - too common
  • Dodge Viper/SRT-10 - not gentlemeny enough
  • Honda NSX - ditto
  • Ginetta G50 - probably not reliable enough
  • Any Morgan - ditto

All I can think of off the top of my head.

Gentlemanly? :D

I would suggest a Lotus Elise, Esprit or perhaps an Exige. The Elise's used range from only $26k and up. An Esprit with mileage in the teens can be easily found for about $40k. I agree a Porsche is way too common.

Also a Maserati Grand Sport is a pretty awesome car for the price, great F1 inspired gearbox and exhaust note. Its very gentleman like and makes for a great track car.

They are in person.

But they're about as gentlemanly as drinking five pints of Stella and punching puppies.

I agree with EVERYTHING that has been suggested by Stotty. I'm just providing more options, some of them gentlemanly, others not quite so. :trouble:

BMW Z4M - This one is for $19.5k with only 26,000 miles. A nice gentleman's car with some fast pace from the famous 3.2L straight six. 👍

I'm one-upping Stotty on this one and would suggest the wonderful V12 Twin Turbo SL65 AMG. $50k for this example with 33,000 miles on it.

How about something with collectors value? The official Turbo RX8 from Tokyo Drift, with paperwork confirming authenticity for $24k, with 18,000 miles on it.

Something for track days? 🤬 being a gentleman, shove a foot up their ass with this for 24k! Only 27,500 miles on it and packing 600hp from an HKS/Garage Saurus built 2.8L! :trouble:

Last on the list, something just brutal. Twin Turbo Viper - $60k!

Hope you liked the suggestions.

- E46 BMW M3
- E39 BMW M5
- Audi RS6 Sedan
- Audi R8 (4.2 V8)
- Maserati GranTurismo S
- Jaguar XFR
- Noble M400
- KTM X-Bow Clubsport
- Lexus IS-F
- Bentley Continental GT

Not absolutely certain on the price of these, I'm just throwing suggestions out there. And the X-Bow is sort of like a "last resort" thing as it is very quick, but not desperately pretty. Surprisingly comfortable though.

👍 This is an awesome list.
I would suggest the E90 M3 also, CLK55 or an Audi S5 Coupe, they're well within the price range and great for all around fun and comfort.

Edit: Also if considering 4door sedans: C63, CTS-V, W211 E55 or E63 👍.

No not actually.

I can think of few car less gentlemanly than an Elise.

Gonna assume you meant E39 M5.

While I love the M models, they aren't going to stand out much, since most people don't really pay attention to what 5 Series or 3 series it is. Similar for the IS-F but they worked hard enough to make it stand out, if only a bit.

Someone suggested the Z4 M Roadster. I'd suggest the Coupe version instead, I think it looks a bit better...

TVR Tuscan Speed Six
Any good Maserati
Any good late Noble
How expensive are used Ferrari 360s?
Vauxhall Monaro VXR :D

GT-R? Sagaris? A (tokyo-drift... cough cough) RX8? Gentlemen, we're talking about a well-heeled older fellow here, not a pimply boy.

A Z4 Coupe fits the bill, nicely.

An RS4 would be nice... the current and previous M3s are a little shouty (though I adore the E46)... but a restored E30 M3 would be an eye-catching way to arrive at the paddocks.

A stripped and roll-caged Jaguar XJR?

I imagine selling the dashboard trim alone would pay for about a year's worth of racing...

This is rediculous....really.

He wants something gentlemanly yet doesn't want a DB9 because of a tiny design feature, and then he doesn't want anything that looks like a DB9, even though they get rid of the styling feature that he doesn't like?

Have you tried

A) Looking for an aftermarket grille that gets rid of what he doesn't like?

B) looking at a Fisker CS V10?

C) Looked at a Ferrari 550 or 575?

Thanks for the help GTP,
he has decided to go for the new Mercedes E-Class V8.
It's beautiful, sporty, and he can use it everyday.
I agree with him.
Just one question, if he's at a track day, is it possible to somehow get rid of the speed muzzle?

He'll be making 250km/hr? That's a big straight.........
Not exactly a track car either, kind of too heavy and luxury orientated.
