Hi guys..

Just a quick question about spring rates..

The higher the number = softer the spring or harder the spring?

I did some testing and it felt like the higher the number meant the SR was softer and it would also explain why the cars have a higher number on the front as standard

F=-kx

where

x is the displacement vector - the distance and direction in which the spring is deformed
F is the resulting force vector - the magnitude and direction of the restoring force the spring exerts
k is the spring constant or force constant of the spring.

If 'k' is the spring rate in the game, then higher spring rate should result in higher force needed for the same displacement.

the higher the number the stiffer the spring, and in response to your query about front being stiffer than rear, It depends where in the car the engine is located as the weight of the engine has to be accounted for.

FF & FR=front is usually stronger than rear.
MR= usually about the same, but rear usually slightly stiffer.
RR= rear is stiffer than front.

yea thats what i thought, but why when i set them both very high its a bouncy ride, and then both really low its a hard ride?

you'll have to have a play around with the damper extension and compression settings if its bouncing, you need your dampers to do their job and take the bounce from the suspension system.

but regardless of damper settings making the springs a higher number should cause it to be hard not soft, i mean the car is really soft very wollowy in corners and you cant feel bumps at all.

what car are you having trouble with? and what are your current settings? i'll have a play around and see what i can find, seeing as the servers are down

it wasnt that i was having difficulty setting it up, i did set it up and i found that the spring rates seemed to be a higher number for soft and lower for hard.

i was using the NSX Race Mod (fully tuned on racing softs) on grand valley speedway with a laptime of 1'22.8xx
