Springs...

I recently obtained an '01 Corolla.
Good condition mechanically and poor condition for the interior (though the exterior is good). No money owed, no warranty running, I'm looking into whether or not $250 springs would be worth the drive.
As some know, I own a 2006 and know it well. This 2001 is lighter, and although the up and down straight line suspension is softer than the '06 there is far less body roll in the '01.

Has anyone here replaced the springs in their car and could you please opine on the subject?

Springs reduce body roll as well. And sway bars can do nothing about brake drive or squat from accelerating, since they only work 'side to side'. A well rounded solution is to change both springs and sways. And of course shocks, since the originals are no doubt well past their prime.

Sorry Kent, aside from that I have nothing more to suggest. I don't know much about Corollas, other than the fact that the early 90s models are very light.

And sway bars only "help" the suspension. If the suspension itself sucks, the sways will only help so much.

If you are planning to put stiffer springs in, you should probably look to upgrade the shocks, unless you are only planning a little bit stiffer.

If you lower the car at all, you should also change out the shocks. TRD makes a spring set for the ZZE110 and sway bars. It might also be possible to use the springs and shocks from the AE111 bz-r.

I'll post more on what I know on the Corolla, but long posts from the iPod are a bit annoying. I haven't done much work on my '99 as of yet, but I might be able to dig up what I was looking at getting for my ZZE110.
