-> I see a roll cage based on the GT3, a hi-po (and tuned) engine from the Turbo, and a menacing aero package that resembles of a Ruf and Gemballa. Now I'm scared of this beast. :scared:

(:

I love how some test engineer guy applied silver tape to the Porsche badge on the hood to cover the badge. You know, 'cause now people won't know it's a Porsche.

People might think it's a Gembala. or Ruf. especially with that bodywork.

Which is menacing, by the way. and functional-appearing.

Will we see a GT2 RS in GT1?

Sexy. Thats all I can say. The new 997 has really shaped-up to be a great model, far-better than the 996 that had preceded it in terms of looks and performance, and this GT2 is certainly pounding that onto the pavement. I love the Carrera-GT-inspired front clip, and the return of the outrageous fender flares and the "Whale Tail" is something that I'm happy to see coming back.

...Will it be the best supercar for the money? Its a tough thing to say for sure. It will no-doubt be faster than the "standard" Turbo, and with that already a screamer to begin with, the 997 GT2 will certainly be a performance "value" as compared to your average Ferrari or Lamborghini.

Can't they make something different now? All porsche's look alike except for the Old ones.

X 2. Looks like just another porsche to me. BOOORING!👎

 That's exactly what I was thinking! The Porsche have always been a fairly decent looking car, but come on. I'm sure performance wise this thing will be a beast. But they really need to freshen up their designs. In fact, IMHO, all Porsches lately have looked alike. Other than changing up the front and rear bumpers, adding a little more wheel flare to it, and possibly a wing of some sort, this thing looks just like the one before it, and the one before that, and that, and so on, and so forth.

All these German cars now have white LED strips on the front, like Audi and now Porsche... I like it! I have them on my Vauxhall Corsa and they make it look concept car esque, although not the same effect as a supercar!

Just so it doesn't sound like I am a porsche hater I googled a 1997 porsche. This is what I found. In the last 10 years they haven't really changed. I fear that I could go back even a few years more but 10 is good enough for me.

Porsche hasn't really changed in all of its history. It's the only car manufacturer I can think of that has been able to stay the same, but keep selling and making money. Not to mention keep performing better and better every generation, even though Isaac Newton outlawed rear-engined layouts just before he understood gravity.

So, they perform just as well as any other sports car, even with the laws of physics constantly nagging. They keep selling. They keep making money. Porsche is one of the most profitable car companies on the planet.

The only logical reason I can come up with to account for all that goodness is that Porsche 911s might just be better. Even though they're the same.

-> Thats why I love Porsches (and its tuners) than any other supercar, they don't have to be too flashy (like Ferrari) or too powerfull (Lamborghini) just to sell cars. All they do is to be unique (Boxer and rear engine layout) and produce results. (:

There is absolutely no reason for Porsche to change, the only ways they do change is when they introduce new models to run alongside the 911, the 911 itself doesn't need to change. Porsches profits are testament enough that they do the right thing. They don't care if a few people who are probably never going to be able to afford a new Porsche 911 wish they had evolved more in the style department. Because they hold a high place status wise among the people who can afford them. Personally, as tied as the design is, I still think it's a great one.

Morgan. Though that is quite and extreme example.

It is the single most profitable.

I see no whale tail. I see the same spoiler design used since the 996 GT2.

I really like this, and I realy hope they don't muck up the front end like they did on the 997 GT3 and paint that small air vent infront of the bonnet black. I also think the spoiler-mounted air scoops are quite cool.

Why does every Porsche looks the same.

I think that was answered pretty well by L4S. There really isn't any need to change it, so why bother? Its a functional design that is immediately recognizable by anyone in the general public, so its a matter of tradition and indeed marketing as well. Why do you think they tried so hard to make the Cayenne look like the 911? Recognition is the answer.

Toronado

Well, it is certainly large-ish like a Whale Tail... But yes, and evolution of a design no-less.

...Either way, I still like it...

Damn. Why couldn't the Turbo get this front bumper, instead of the one with the pimples?

Why does every Porsche looks the same.
I have a harder time telling Aston Martin's models apart than Porsche's.

That's not a "whale tail"; that's a large rear wing. This is a whale tail:

Note the resemblance to an actual whale's tail. Primarily from the 930 & 964 Turbo, but I think it's been around on a few other models, and available as an option up until the 996.

As for this 997 GT2, I don't think Porsche is really going ahead with that bodywork. I think it really is there to throw people off, to make them think it is a Gemballa 911. It's extremely ricey for Porsche. All of their other designs have been very functional, and very well designed with the rest of the body. Most of this stuff fits like broken glass.
