I want to buy a new game on PS3 and I can't decide, Dirt 3 or the new SSX. I love racing games, but I also love SSX. I tried both, Dirt 3 on Onlive and SSX Demo on PS3. I have Dirt 2, I played it 10 hours and I got bored, it isn't deep enough, few cars and tracks, no tuning etc..; as a comparison, I played GT5 over 150 hours.
What do you think I should buy ?

(excuse my English, I'm from Romania)

When I started to play it it wasn't boring, but after I finished half of the events it was boring, because I don't like rallycross and land rush.
But I want to know one thing, can I get over 25 hour in Dirt 3 singleplayer ? Without replaying the events.

One is a physics defying, arcade, fantasy racer. The other is a snowboarding game.

Seriously though. I bought the incomplete edition of Dirt3. (Oddly they charged me full price but nevermind). I hated it and got rid within a week.
Personally I enjoyed Dirt2 more.

Maybe the Complete edition is better?

Im still waiting for the proper physics edition to be released... and possibly the one with all the rally events they talked about before release.

Had dirt 2 and had fun with it but did not enjoy dirt 3 at all and the DLC added absolutely nothing to the game for me.

If you did not enjoy dirt 2 then stay away from dirt 3 as the tracks are very few and extremely repetitive. Each season is the exact same with more laps.

Have not tried SSX tho.

I just got SSX. I was a big fan of the old SSXs and this one doesn't disappoint. The inclusion of an online "autolog" feature like NFS is very fun and addictive for challenging your friend's times and trick scores - something that PD still hasn't incorporated in GT, though it would seem like a no-brainer. I haven't played DIRT though - not really interested having heard many negative things.

Get SSX. We'll have time trial competitions here. If not enough people here want to participate in a competitoin for Dirt3, I can give SSX a shot if enough people here play it.

Thanks guys ! I'll get SSX, it's a lot of fun.
If will get the game and want to play online ( although it doesn't have real time MP), you can add me on PSN.

I don't own either but from what I've seen SSX is the much better buy of the two, download the demo to try it out. The reviews have been really positive and the PS3 version gets exclusive content and seems to be the lead platform which can only mean good things!

If someone has SSX, go make a thread or something.

If enough people here become active players, would you be interested in competitions?
Competitions for the speed records and high score records... who's in?

I ordered mine, I will have it next week ( I want to get the US version because of the extra mountain).

Doesn't the EU version also have the extra mountain (Fuji)? If it doesn't boy that sucks.

Yes it does, specifically it is uncluded with all UK ones I believe. Mine certainly has it.

IT is a superb game, really enjoying it so far, a real return to form for the series.

BTW, Survival run on Everest is savagely hard! XD

It's not physics defying if someone manages to pull off a rotating bodyboarding grind on a pipe. :sly:

I downloaded and played the SSX demo from PSN and was bitterly disappointed. To me it didn't look any better than SSX Tricky on the PS2 and the controls did not feel as clean and smooth as they used to - If I was the OP I'd go for Dirt3 instead :)

The controls are fantastic, graphics are great.

Go read all the reviews, they agree with me.

If you played, like me, PS2 versions of SSX, you'll inevitably come to conclusion that the new SSX is rubbish. I mean, it's not a bad game, but paying a full price for something that you've seen before, is a misunderstanding. I'd buy DiRT 3.

I have played every iteration of SSX since its debut on playstation and have been a huge fan. I don't have a backwards compatible playstation so I can't play any of my old PS2 versions so I was looking forward to the new PS3 SSX. I picked it up on launch day and have been playing steadily since then. I can tell you if you've just played the demo you have no idea how much content this version has.
Obviously it's all subjective and some folks are going to complain that there isn't a half-pipe trick-out zone or that it's all stuff we've seen before but IMHO it's great. The World Tour Mode (story mode) won't take you long to zip through but the real content comes from the exploring the 159 different drops (I've been playing for three weeks and have only touched 70 of those 159) and competing online in Global Events where you can rake in some serious credits if you're good.
It's all subjective, of course, but I for one am still having a blast with this game and am really glad I picked it up - it's a great arcade palate cleanser when I need a break from running the Ring.
@OP - feel free to add me if you need any online SSX rivals.
