Game: Star Wars Battlefront II
Genre: 3rd Person Shooter/Real Tiem Strategy
Consoles: PS2, XBOX, Gamecube (I think) And PC (Again I think)
Console I Played On: PS2
Price: 29.99GBP

The most succesful Star Wars game to ever grace this planet is back for round 2 and this time, the force is with you...

Star Wars Battlefront was a great game, as long as you had either a 2nd player to play it with or a network adapter to play online with. Single player was, to be frank, a bit of a let down, 3 single player modes is good, all of them can be comepleted within around 3 hours, BAD. Star Wars Battlefront II has uped the ante for the lone player with a story mode titled "Rise Of The Empire" where you take control of a clone trooper from the 501st division and go through episode 3 to 6 covering their rise to power, their fights against the jedi and rebels. Its a great improvement and takes well over 3 hours to complete. 1-0 to Battlefront II then.

Galactic Conquest is back and improve beyond the basic go-to-a-planet-and-take-it-over Galactic Conquest that was in Battlefront I, Instead you now have a map with multiple routes to go and more than the 4 planets to take over ( I think you start with 3 whilst the enemy starts with 9) but also you can come across an enemy fleet in space. Now this is where Battlefront II plays its joker.

Battlefront II has fights in space!! You start in the hanger of your ship with a choice of fighters to choose from, each with their own characteristics, you then take off and fly towards the enemy's ship, taking out improtant areas of the ship including communication towers, the bridge, life support and more. Its not as simple as that though, the enemy of course has their own arsenal of fighters and they are all trying to do the same as you, take you out. You can be locked on with missiles requiring fast reflexes to avoid and you have to out manouver gun turrets from the ship itself, its a great challenge and highly enjoyable!

So you got a better "Galactical Conquest and fights in space, I make that 3-0 to Battlefront II then.

Battlefront II also includes Jedi warriors properly this time and you can play as them instead of the comupter like in Battlefront I, in missions as you get further in or do something that affects the battle, you get the choice of playing as a Jedi, no you can refuse, but who would not wanna be a Jedi!? Jedi's I have played as include Yoda, Obi-Wan Kanobi, Mace Windu, Darth Sidious and a certain Anakin Skywalker. it also does not make the game any easier, if anything its mroe of a challenge because you have to get up real close and personal with the lightsabre, 2 swipes to kill yes, but you can easially be struck with 10 bullets along the way...

So thats 4-0 to Battlefront II!

I have not had the chance to play multiplayer yet since I only got it yesterday, but expect a full report of it soon. ;)

Now, the bad parts (Yes there is one), the enemy AI has been improved but to the point where you can still just run into a room and take out 5 enemies and capture a control point in about the time I take on the toilet. Not long.

So the final score is 4-1 to Battlefront II, its a vast improvemnt on a already fun game, you actually have a reason to go on single player, space battles are incredibly enjoyable and hey for once, you can feel the force.

Final scores:

Gameplay: 9, Yes yo ucan pick up and play it straight away, but the space battles do take practice.
Lifespan: 10, You wont want to stop playing this game for some time to come.
Graphics: 8, No major update but its looks smoother and more fluid with lasers coming at you from all directions.
Multiplayer: ?, Yet to be played but expect it to trump the already impressive multiplayer of Battlefront I

Total: Between 35-40 (Still need to rate multiplayer)

:) Sorted.

Game I have my eye on next: Resident Evil 4.

I usre hope they improved the online play on the PC version. In Battlefront I, the online games were almost always laggy, even on the best servers with the lowest pings.

ive been playing online all weekend its great fun even though theres not as much players as i expected online (Ps2) but when you do get 24 player games on its great fun 10/10

Edit:oh and i never experienced lag.

I've yet to play online..

but all I know..

It's single player mode is the most repetative unimaginative crap...

BF1 is still more fun than this garbage..

and the Jedi/Hero's...A complete let down
