Just a word of advice. Ive had GT5 crashing on me the last couple of days till today it wouldnt work at all. When I tried to backup I got the error 8001002A. This appears to mean that the file system is corrupted. I tried a few fixes like holding the power button till the system gives 3 bleeps. None worked. In the end I had to swallow the pill and restore the PS3 system. This meant ive lost everything. GT5, Prologue, Uncharted 1&2, Assasins Creed 1,2 & 3 etc. game saves.

OK its my fault for not backing up. Im just giving you a heads up that if your having crashes / freezes with GT you should increase your backup routine! You could end up with a corrupt file system that then stops you backing up before you do the PS3 system restore!

Quick question, how do I back it up? Feel sorry for your loss :-(

You need a USB flash drive or external hard drive. Plug it into the PS3 and go to System>System Settings>Backup Utility. Follow the instructions there its not that hard.

I thought the GT5 save is system locked, so can only be backed up with a full system backup. Have not tried though, hope to be proved wrong.

could any1 confirm if we can actually backup on usb ?
if not, ill try it after work.
Thanks for the heads up btw

when you select Backup, it backups your entire Playstation system. Am I right by saying that you need a external PS3 hard drive to backups and that you can't use an ordinary hard drive? I have the option to backup on a USB flash, but I need 16GB and mine is nowhere near as big.

Any tips?

You cannot back up the GT5 game save on USB yet.

There has to be a patch made from PD for this.

(all the guys backing up must be doing full PS3 back ups - not just GT5 game save)

Sorry to hear, I do have all my game saves backed up. Except GT5.

You said you lost all you game saves, so even if you can back up the GT5 saves to on day one, you will still lost it, since you never backed up any of your games saves to begin with.

Any USB hard drive will work or Flash drive (often called memory sticks [wrongly]) as long as its big enough to fit your data on. I think to save room you can delete the game data. Do a backup with the Game saves, then re-install the game once you got the sytem up and running and your backup re-loaded?

Yes, you can backup GT5's game save files. BUT, it's motherboard locked, you will HAVE to restore it on the SAME PlayStation 3 motherboard.

Nice info. won't do much if you machine dies, but at least it will save you if your HD is dead. 👍

Thanks. I encountered this problem with Assassin's Creed II. Just after I platted it, I backed up the files, using the PlayStation 3's backup data utility. But what I didn't know was, is that I need to be restored on the same motherboard. Now I lost that data... Along with 5+ other Platinumed games...

if my memory is good, you also have to have a FAT32 formated devise...if in NTSF it won't be recognised by the PS3...

My 250gb exd drive has a ±80g pratition in FAT32 (has to be in a certain amount respedting the FAT pattern)...

I mignt be wrong, but I'm pretty sure... :D
