There are quite a lot of races that require American Muscle cars. Traditionally I don't do these, not enjoying the feeling of driving something with too much power for its chassis.

I normally drive cars like the Alfa 4c or one of the Porsches so am used to RWD and I actually seem to have got my E30 M3 to handle pretty well, but I have a nice Shelby that I really want to enjoy at some of the awesome USA tracks.

I appreciate that there is no tune that suits all cars and tracks, but wondered what are the 3-5 main tweaks that professional tuners make to a muscle car to make it more driveable? Are there settings in the suspension or LSD in particular that you automatically go to when tuning something like this?

Head over to Praiano's thread and have a look at his Camaro tune. It transformed the car for me, and there is a lot to be learned from it. Goes for all his tunes.

Taking hints from his tune , I have tried applying some of the general settings to other cars with high torque with fair success. Run it at a slightly higher drive height in the front, a softer rear suspension and some toe-in. This generally calms the rear and removes some of the snap-oversteer you can get out of the corners.

But with these cars you will still have to practice throttle control. There is just so much power down low compared to the cars I normally run.

Thanks for the heads up I had missed that tune.

I have been playing with the Camaro set up for suspension and lsd on my Shelby and it has certainly made the car more stable and enjoyable to run.

You can still easily overload the rear tires if you are clumsy on the throttle but that is realistic so I don’t mind that at all.
