after setting up the drift set ups with certain cars, i somehow have a strange feeling that the steering doesnt go the way i want it to go. I dont know but is it just me or the steering feels incomplete. it doesnt seem to want to turn all the way

I think your suffering from understeer...
Put N2 tyres on the car. and you'll be sweet.

Plus Practice makes perfect.

Simple answer, you gotta make the front wheels stop spinning man! All wheel drive cars wont turn while drifting if you have wheelspin, even with the VCD at 10. You have to learn throttle control and keep turning in to the corner to keep it sideways. IF YOU CORRECT WITH ALL-WHEEL DRIVE, YOU WILL STRAIGHTEN OUT ALMOST INSTANTLY. In other words, the front wheels will pull you forward and out of the drift. (this technique can be used to recover from an "over drift" or a drift angle of 90* or more  💡 ).

If you want an easier solution, get an FR and soften the front sway bar a notch.

What is the actual result, of the problem, in detail?... Meaning... What is happening?... Are you trying to turn, and the car is continuing to go in a straight line (sliding/understeer)?... Are you getting the feeling the steering is limited (i.e. the wheel isn't turning as far as it should)?... Give us some more detail, so we can properly, and accurately, deduce the source of the problem...

If you're using a DF (not pro), you get this problem if you're using simulation setting. I think it's sort of emulating 900 or 540 mode or something.. with only 270 deg of rotation you only seem to get half or less of your possible steering angles (especially countersteering)

delphic reason you nailed one of my problems down, the steering does feel kind of limited when i go into a corner and i dont know sometimes when i got on a straightaway all of a sudden i start drifting, its strikes me kind of odd but why would a car suddenly drift on a straight a way. oversteer when im not even turning the the car?

ske
you also got the other point down im using a nonpro driving force .... not enough money to upgrade to pro at the moment. so why is it trying to simulate the whole 900 degree thing when gt4 knows it only turning radius of 270 degrees.

Don't ask me, but when the wheel is in sim mode it seems like the steering will only go halfway to lock or even less (judging from the replays). So, unless you already tried: Step away from the Sim setting. I kinda like the 'Amateur' mode, as it seems to iron out some of the straightline wobble and gives you full steering angle as well.

As for the sim mode 'emulating' a bigger wheel radius, that was just me guessing.. but why else would it simply not allow more than half (or less) lock? Sim mode may be great for grip driving, but it's no good for drifting.

With that wheel, you also HAVE to hold on to it on the straight, or the car will wobble and eventually slide.. even when going 50kph -.- It should be pretty easy to hold straight though, at least in am mode. If not, maybe your suspension settings are way off, or you're spinning the rear wheels?

Options > Steering has a dropdown box where you can select Amateur/Professional/Simulation steering mode for the DF non pro. I'd recommend Amateur mode, especially for drifting.

Amateur and Pro both have full lock possibilities, sim hasn't (at least not when countersteering). Amateur is a bit looser around the centre, or so I hear. Both Am and Pro modes seem to work fine, but you get a bit more straight line wobble and possibly harder feedback in Pro mode.

when i checked the settings it was already set to amateur.....man getting my wisdom teeth out hurts, but at least because of that i have time to play with gt4 all day. hopefully seat time will help me figure out my flaws
