Steering Wheel Help

I'm not a hardcore gamer but I would like to purchase a Logitech Driving Force GT steering wheel along with a Wheel Stand Pro...currently I use a controller...Is this steering wheel setup any good?
Any and all info will be greatly appreciated

You need to calibrate the pedals every time you're wheel calibrates itself. The wheel spins and calibrates itself every time you plug in the steering wheel.

All you need to do is when you start a race, push the gas and brake pedals all the way down. It only calibrates if you're in a race. Then, restart the race or keep driving if you're driving solo.

Is this needed? How would it improve my gameplay?

It's definitely needed (and will happen anyway the first time you accelerate and brake), as there will be a gap between the pedal being pressed and the game recognising that command the first time you attempt either. If you haven't used the brake pedal and you come screaming into a slow corner at 150mph + you'll soon realise what I mean!

Didn't bothered me till now to be honest but now you mention it i'll pay close attention...:sly:

The sensitivity of acceleration and braking will be affected. The gas not so much because you're flooring it to begin with some races. The braking sensitivity is what's a problem. If you only push the pedal down halfway for a turn, it'll take that as being a full range braking motion.

Calibrating the pedals will make sure that you're using the whole range that they offer.

No.

Erm, no.
The only thing which happens when your pedals aren't calibrated is you don't get throttle/braking input from the corresponding pedal travel.
For example you'd get 10% throttle for 100% pedal travel which would lead you to think that your pedals are broken.

In worst case you wouldn't get any pedal input.

Calibrating the pedals will make sure that you're using the whole range that they offer.

This.

I fail to see why is this important for a guy who just wants to know if DFGT is the wheel to go for?
Ah the GT5 section. :dunce:

In my opinion the DFGT is kind of a POS, and not worth nearly the cost.

I have owned the DFP, DFGT & G27. The DFGT is by far the worst of the bunch in terms of build quality.

You're far better off saving up a little more and getting a G27, or buy the G27 and make your own cockpit so you save money on the seat.

The DFGT will not last very long, and it feels like a toy. The G27 makes driving easier, it feels more realistic, and is much more reliable. Easily worth the extra $100.

You have to remember that DFGT is a budget wheel while G27 is for more serious users, OP stated that he's a casual gamer so he'd be happy with DFGT.
Also, don't forget the price difference - G27 is almost twice as expensive so again, why do you even compare the two?
It's like if I said "don't buy a Corvette, Ferrari has much better build quality - buy a Ferrari it's worth the extra $100000".

You can't compare G27 to DFGT, ever.

Also, I know people who use DFGT for 3 years so who says it's easily breakable?
Any piece of equipment with moving parts will break down under bad handling, any piece of equipment - T500RS, G27, a pencil etc.

Ok people I have the wheel that says GT on the wheel. I got it when gt2 was out and it's by Logitech. Is this what people refer to as DFGT? I know they made a new one that is pretty much the same only a red circle part on it and I think the center is a horn. Does this brake gas calibrate thing work for this model because I find the slightest touch and it brakes like right away. Gas is pretty much the same. I never use it because of these issues.

If your talking about the Driving Force Pro, then yes the pedals need to be calibrated in the same way as the DGFT.

I think the pedals are even the same for both of them.

If it's blue than it's GT Force.

No, not the same. The G27 is only $100 more, not $100,000 more. The OP said he's played with a controller for this long, so why not save up for an extra few weeks and get the wheel that's much better. He also said he's gonna spend a ton of cash on a playseats wheel stand; he's much better off spending the extra money on the wheel and spending less money on the stand.

I say it's easily breakable. My DFP lasted for 8 years, my DFGT lasted for 4 months. I have a buddy who's broken three DFGT's since GT5 came out.

I am a heavy user, but I don't abuse the wheel. No rally racing and no X1 racing. The DFGT simply does not have a great build quality; this is no secret.

It looks exactly the same as the newer Logitech one with the gran turismo logo in the center of it just the generation before it.

I press down on gas an brake at the same time? Can I do this while it's counting down to start the race?

Also it's not Blue at all. Totally black with rubber and plastic. On the center there's a bunch of fake screws bolting down a gran turismo logo.

But that $100 is actually over 60% more expensive than DFGT which makes my $100000 figure not crazy.
I'm just saying that G27 is 60% more expensive and it's not in the same class as DFGT.
Also - DFGT with a proper rig > G27 on a table.

Of course, OP can buy whatever he wants but my point is that he'll be happy with DFGT since it's a great wheel.
