Hey, I've been going through the threads to try and gather info and opinions regarding steering wheels / Pedals for GT3, I wasn’t able to find the information I really needed so I thought id start this thread.

First off, my main reason for considering a steering wheel would be to better the game play and to hopefully lower some the lap times. So I'm not really to interested in the fun factor of a wheel, especially if it will limit my game play.

So far from what I have read...All wheels suck...lol. Either shifting doesnt work right, or the wheel doesnt allign properly or they are just cheap and flaky.

So if you got some thoughts and opinions on wheels please post them.

Thanks,
Aaron. :)

The Momo Force is an excellent wheel from what I've heard. It costs about 250$ AU, which is about 150$ US.

I can only tell you about the Logitech GT Force wheel because that is the only one I have tried. It is a completely different feel that takes getting used to. It's not even like other spring-loaded wheels. It is supposed to give you the feel of the road fighting back, and I guess it does. I didn't really use it much, I went back the the anolog controller. If I could find it, I would like to give it another try. I think it's buried in my closet. It was only $100US and probably worth it if I ever actually used it, but it does take getting used to. I also got free speakers with it, which I also have only used a few times...but at least I know where they are.

Yeah, the Logitech MOMO is the way to go.
The MOMO is originally designed for the computer, but it uses a USB port so it's compatable with the PS2. A bit on the pricy side, but I know of a few racers that use it and they put up some incredible times with it.

I got the MAD CATZ Universal MC2 Racing Wheel fo $50. Wheels will actually raise your lap times the first couple times you use it, but then the lap times go down. I don't know if your lap times will get faster or not. It depends on the amount of time you spend playing wiht it, the more you play the faster your lap times get. I have beaten a couple of my records with my steering wheel.

I'm actually, well was, planning on buying Logitech Driving Force (non-GT3), since you could actually buy it for $50 nowadays, but with all the issues about compatibility, I decided to save some more and get Logitech MOMO Force. (Click the links for more info/reviews). Reviewer, especially gamers, say it's the best wheel in existent. You can find it for about $100 US nowadays. I just hope it'll be GT4 compatible.

Yes, that's a hand-stitched leather^

Of course!

There weren't any clutch pedals on the other wheels.....

Question: Will the Logitech MOMO Racing work for PS2? I love the stick .....

The MOMO with the stick shifter does not work with the PS2.

I've owned both the Blue Wheel and the Leather MOMO. The Leather MOMO was the way to go. Worth every penny. However it took me about a 15-30 min each time to set it up and get it running properly. If you've got a solid mount and can leave it set-up that would relieve that issue.

Give yourself 60-80 hours of play time to get as good with the wheel as you were with the DS2. The nice thing is, that in that time, you'll pick up seconds where you never knew they were before. So later on, you'll be much faster, and considerably more consistent.

I get regularly 2-3 hours of game time a week (in two sessions) and to blow a 1/2 hour to 30 minutes to get set-up would have put my 60 ours into next year. So I sold off the MOMO. The Blue wheel got returned a while ago.

As a further note, in my first real session to run the MOMO, I was able to match my Stock EVO @ midfield times in less than 40 laps. So with lowered powered cars, you adapt to it fairly quickly.

Good luck,

AO

Is anyone else using a handheld (mini) wheel controller? I had the Logitech wheel and returned it after one use (too much setup time vs. play time).

I bought a Mad Catz hand controller off eBay that looks like an RC car controller. Its a pistol grip unit with a mini wheel and trigger gas/brake accelerator. My lap limes have been dropping dramatiically now that I have true analog gas/brakes. (no flames please from the DS crowd) :D

MotoGuzzi, do you have a picture of this? I'd be interested to see what it looked like.

I stole these from an eBay auction, so let's see if they work:

There are a couple of other similar controllers, but the Mad CAtz seems to be the best design. Too bad its no longer in production. :(

You sir, are what is known as a "tease":D
Do you know if there is any other controller of that type on the market.
I recently bought a Mad Catz Mini controller. It looks a lot like the DS2. I didn't finish breaking it in before one of my kids absconded with it. So, I'm back to my DS2.
I also have a NAKI wheel that I NEVER have been able to get used to. I spend a lot of time with the car sideways.

I have the Logitec GT Force, which I payed roughly $100 USD for about 18 months ago. I've used it about 5 times for GT3, and maybe twice on my computer.

If you don't have a good place to set it up, it's not worth having. You really need to be able to get comfortable while using it.

:D :D I'll take that as a compliment! :D :D

There have been some similar knock-off's on eBay recently. The main difference appears to be that there are 2 separate triggers for gas/brakes as opposed to the Mad Catz push-pull triggerer.

Here's a link to one now: Playstation 2 Logic3 Top Drive Reactor

When I went searching for the Mad Catz unit from vendors, I read that Fry Electronics had some left. Unfortunately, there's no Fry in this neck of the woods. If anyone locates a vendor for the MC units, please post.

OK, Mad Catz no longer makes this, Logitech discontinued the Good MOMO wheel. WHy do these companies do this? nit upon a good idea, and then discontinue it?

I checked on the Logic3 TDR and found it was a European model. Off to keep searching...
