Cheers andy

Drifting i understand is best done on the pad, I for the life of me cannot drift on my wheel.

This has been my experience as well. Also you'll notice in most drift trials the leaders are DS3, but on time trials it's almost always wheel users.

Ok thats perfect cheers guys. Was getting awful annoyed with ma self trying to use the wheel for drifting al stick with using the pad glad am not alone haha

This is true, but only because most of the wheel drifters don't do the trials. But drifting with a wheel is a lot different from drifting with a DS3, so if you want to use the wheel you should try to find a friend that uses one for drifting and get a few tips, and then start practicing

But the trials might still be easier with a DS3

Besides the fact that drifting with the wheel may wear out some of the mechanics from the hardware such as force feedback. Use the pad for both reasons: it's easier and it doesn't wear out your wheel's force feedback.

Or if you do want to drift with the wheel then just unplug it so Force feedback is off.
It won't mess with the mechanism and you can turn the wheel much faster.

If I unplug my new DFGT it stops working. It has to be plugged into the power unit before it does anything.

No plug it in so it calibrates then take the power lead out and it works fine.
Trust me I do it when using the X1

Have you tried the power steering option? It's not an assist,it lessens the resistance when turning the wheel fast, great for drifting. It is a must,i found, with my fanatec turbo s.

Drifting with a wheel requires A LOT more practice than normal grip racing, A LOT more. Start off with a car that drifts extremely easily, like a C63. Practice keeping that car in control, and you should be able to drift with a wheel. It took me about four weeks to learn how to drift with a wheel, and even now, I'm not as good as I am with a DS3.

It's all about learning to turn the wheel quickly and to use the ffb as your advantage. When you start the first slide you can let the wheel slip between your fingers and let the ffb tell you how much you should be turning, and then when you need to get straight again you should try taking grips from different sides of the wheel, not always the regular 9-5 position.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJ54QkUAX5I this video shows some techniques I use when driving a low grip car, the same applies to drifting aswell. In many places (like 2:05) it's plain drifting anyway so I hope you'll get something out of it.

+1 I couldn't drift until I did this, now I can drift pretty well. Impossible without power steering on.

I'm able to drift even without it.

I suppose it would be a good idea to start with it, but when you get more experience, you should turn the steering assist completely off.

But thats the thing, its not really an assist as such, the power steering option just lessens the damper signal the game gives to the wheel.and the fanatecs seem to increase the games normal damper signal. To be honest but, im not sure how the logitecs work, having not owned one
