This is a thread series for the seasonal time trials that focuses on completing the challenges (i.e. beating the gold target times) with stock versions of the cars. This means that instead of maximizing your PP with upgrades and focusing on getting the fastest laps on the in-game leaderboard, you are attempting to complete the challenges with the bare minimum amount of 'car' and money-spent as is possible.

With the new more open ended format means that part of the challenge will be finding a stock car that has the lowest PP or lowest price depending on your view. It is also difficult to predict which types of tires a car will come with before purchasing.

Warning: Some of these challenges are getting to be extreme and should be approached with caution! :banghead:

In order to participate your car must be stock.
1) A stock car is essentially any car as it is when purchased from the dealership or won as a prize: it will have had no modifications, added parts, or adjustments done that affect how the car performs.
2) No oil changes are permitted: if you have had an oil change you must wait until the effects of the HP boost have been removed by driving over 300 km.
3) You must use the original tire type that came with the car, unless dirt or snow tires are required.
4) No changes to any “Car Settings” are permitted: they must ALL be left at their default values. [Note: cars that come with Fully Customizable Suspension that were purchased or won prior to patch 1.11 must have the suspension settings restored to default in order to be updated with the new stock suspension settings.]
5) No SRF or ASM is permitted: other “Driver Assists” are permitted.

Basically, the ONLY changes you may make to a car include: painting the car and changing a car’s racing number. Any other changes means your car is not stock.

Stock A-Spec Seasonals #30:

Beginner Level Compact Car Challenge: Streets of Willow Springs - 400 PP - CS
Intermediate Class French Car Challenge: Deep Forest Raceway Reverse - 450 PP - SH
Expert Level Group GT3 Car Challenge: Laguna Seca - 600 PP - RH

The Stock Seasonal Spreadsheet:

A few members have begun a leaderboard of sorts where individuals will be able to input their info into a public document. This is not so much a competition as a way to compare all sorts of data. At this point the data that is recorded for entries is as follows:

PP - Best Lap - Total Time - Car - Tires - Drive - Power - Weight - Rabbit - Rabbit Total Time

Link to the GTP Stock Seasonal Spreadsheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kDEW2OWUxHfq9PTR4G4-HKXl3veLfq0sXhvwiPYMUGw/

Notes about the Spreadsheet:
Tabs will generally be ordered with the newest seasonal events at the left.
Gold times are ordered based first on PP (lowest PP at the top), and then total time.
Bronze and Silver times are ordered based solely on total time (fastest time at the top): these entries will be grayed out.
If you are comfortable with entering your info please do so.
Only create one entry per car for your best total time for that car.
To add an empty line: right click (PC) on a gray row number box and select add a row above or below.
If you make a mistake or change something you did not mean to change hit undo once or a few times.

Willow Springs, Deep Forest...

So without getting too far into the list of events I am sat in a mid engined French car at Deep Forest Raceway. In reverse. So I am at Yawecar Tserofpeed.
5 laps - should be good.

395pp - 163bhp - 950bhp - MR - CS - Hommell Berlinette R/S Coupe

1m34.494 - 8m18.364 (8m19.061 - Lutecia V6 24V '01 (C.Rossetti) The famous new romantic poet? )

lots of fun, the car required you to delicate balance it on the tyres, if you over drive, you will lose one corner of the car as you over work the tyres. The engine isn't going to help you out, so you need to be smooth as a Sophie Marceau's legs.

The AI were comedy extra's from Ronin or a the first Transporter film. One driver (J.DuPont in the V6 24V Lutecia) made an error out of the penultimate corner slide wide on the exit and clobbered the armco sending him back into the path of the other cars.

The Prize car is a real Munter. 307 CC. My Eyes!

################
The Streets of Willow Springs.

A race here? I took the Berlinette as I am too lazy to find another car.

395pp - 163bhp - 950bhp - MR - CS - Hommell Berlinette R/S Coupe

1m28.976 - 4m51.626 (4m59.251 - Mini Cooper S '05 (U.Urner))

Only three laps and in my over powered car I was able to breeze into the lead early on lap 2. Enjoyable as I was chucking the car about but the easy car gives you time to turn a mistake into a missed apex, rather than a trip into the boondocks. The AI here are much less frantic and don't weave or muck about.

Toyota Vitz RS prize car.... Badge at the front looks wrong.

################
On to Fort Ord Marine Training Base. (Location Classified (But it is next door to Laguna Seca)
Laguna Seca Raceway - Alas my little French car wasn't allowed to play. so I had to pick a... oh, Any Race car will do, not just a GT3...

Jaguar XJ220LM? 450/600 aero and a Turbo?

1m24.664 - 7m37.241 - (7m16.368 - P. Gonoi - Viper GTS-R (Team Oreca) #91)

Pretty distant, a few of the AI had a Comedy last corner crash - I myselfhad a last lap off after I went under the bridge, I turned in a bit early got a bit of curb back end stepepd out I gave it a dab of oppo and I promptly got spat out off the track into the tyrewall on the left! I need to really up my game, or hope for a Bad grid or a flukey AI crash if I am to win in this car.

My results so far with a wheel and an automatic transmission:

400PP Compact Cars at Streets of Willow:
375PP
- 1:31.324 - 5:03.040 - Toyota 2000GT '67 - CS - FR - 153hp - 1120kg - Clio R.S. 2.0 16V '02 - 5:04.749

450PP French Cars at Deep Forest Reverse:
422PP
- 1:34.889 - 8:18.210 - Alpine A110 1600S '72 - CS - RR - 138hp - 715kg - Megane R.S. Trophy '11 - 8:18.919

600PP Group GT3 at Laguna Seca:
600PP
- 1:19.877 - 7:11.793 - Honda HSV-010 GT 15th Anniv '11 - RH - FR - 591hp - 1100kg - McLaren F1 GTR-BMW - 7:17.144

This race is much tougher than it looks. I kept getting two McLaren cars as rabbits: one or both. They kept flying way ahead with times of less than 7:10.xxx. Then I won this race rather easily and wondered how: I checked the replay and the McLaren went into the dirt in turn one and ended up in 4th position for a while.

400PP Compact Cars at Streets of Willow:
318PP - 1:42.201 - 5:28.211 - Mini Cooper 1.3i '98 - CM - FF - 61hp - 771kg - MINI COOPER S '05 - 5:28.732

Having cleared this with a turbocharged 2009 Italian, I think this was the third victory in this car, with a similar amount of second places, but I approved of just this one. In one of the races I was sure I was going to hit the car in front of me but no; the invisible nose of this car is so short.

The car can probably get through a lot faster, I just haven't had much practice with "keeping the momentum" or FF. Managed a 72 kph low while overtaking in the right-hander before the straight on lap 1. That first lap was fastest but they were all within 75 ms. The not-Mini cars never had a chance, no risk of getting bronze.

450PP French Cars at Deep Forest Reverse:
388PP
- 1:38.928 - 8:38.347 - Renault R5 Turbo '80 - CS - MR - 159hp - 970kg - Lutecia V6 24V '01 - 8:38.773

359PP - 1:39.957 - 8:43.736 - Alpine A310 1600VE '73 - CS - RR - 123hp - 930kg - Lutecia V6 24V '01 - 8:43.730 (2nd place +0.006)

Old French cars, lovely scenery, smoking Gauloises with Serge Gainsbourg on the tape player. What could be more sympathetique? The Renault was a fairly easy win after a couple of restarts following being taken out by the clowns hitting the armco and bouncing out into the middle of the track. It's funny when you see it in your mirror but not so much when it happens right in front of you. The joke's wearing a bit thin now, guys.
I did win it in the Alpine but it wasn't 100% clean (bit of argy-bargy in the last tunnel followed by a cut across the concrete run-off). I must have had another dozen goes at it and that was my best result. I'll get there eventually.

400PP Compact Cars at Streets of Willow:
359PP
- 1:32.840 - 5:03.853 - Alpine A310 1600VE '73 - CS - RR - 123hp - 930kg - Clio RS 2.0 16V '02 - 5:05.330

342PP
- xxx - 5:06.854 - Mazda Cosmo Sport (L10A) '67 - CS - FR - 109hp - 940kg - Civic Type R (EK) '98 - 5:08.334

319PP - 1:42.082 - 5:28.512 - Triumph Spitfire 1500 '74 - CM - FR - 71hp - 809kg - Corolla Runx Z Aerotourer - 5:28.591

This is the first time the Spitfire has won anything since the dawn of the spreadsheet.

600PP Group GT3 at Laguna Seca:
599PP
- 1:19.984 - 7:10.178 - Alpine VGT Race Mode - RH - MR - 493hp - 900kg - GT-R R35 Touring Car - 7:15.580

Going for the Alpine hat trick. Just need to nail Deep Forrest. This wasn't too hard surprisingly. There was an F1 in the line up but he came in third. I didn't save the replay so I don't know what happened to him. Suppose he must have gone off somewhere. It's nice to have an expert race at 600PP with AI that are not complete maniacs.

Edit-
450PP French Cars at Deep Forest Reverse:
359PP - 1:41.082 - 8:49.391 - Alpine A310 1600VE '73 - CS - RR - 123hp - 930kg - Lutecia V6 24V '01 - 8:49.486

Slower overall and a pretty scrappy race but I'll take it. That Christina Rossetti is a nasty piece of work though. Tried to knock me off the track and then pulled the driving into the barrier stunt right in front of me. I was wary of her this time though, taking a very wide line so I could scoot round her.

359pp - 123bhp - 930kg - RR - CS - Alpine A310 1600VE '73

2nd 0.012 off the win 8m47.358 vs 8m47.346 from the Megane R.S. Trophy of D. Martos.

Car was good as it didn't overwhelm the AI, and on your own you can waste time with too much reactionary driving.

1.40.801 - 8m43.865 - 8m43.990 Lutecia V6 Phase 2 '03 (S.Kumagai)

- If I get a smooth run I could see a sub1m40 and also creep under 8m40 here.. The first corner isn't flat and sometimes I make it easy with 90mph apex speed.. other times I am under 80 and traffic into turn 1 is ... interesting. My car was often overtaken on the Pit straight.

My race was interetsing as one of the Clios clobbered the armco on the inside of turn 2 - One of the AI posted a 1m35.472 purple lap and on the resulting chase down and was 4 seconds quicker in the final sector - Fortunatly they are not 4 seconds faster under normal circumstances - with their Sports tyres and le stripey shirts, and the string of le Onions.

really enjoyed this race as this car is the goofy overweight kid sister to the most excellently formed A110 - Got a better horn than the Berlinette too.

400PP Compact Cars at Streets of Willow:
296PP
- 1:42.422 - 5:27.242 - Mitsubishi i-MiEV '09 - CM - MR - 63hp - 1100kg - 206 RC '03 - 5:27.321

Over a tonne looks like a lot for 63hp to drag around but it's powered by Duracells so you get full power all the time. Torque drops off pretty dramatically but that doesn't seem to matter much. Plus it's MR so handles quite nicely with no understeer to speak of. You can get even get the tail out if you really push it. (I actually spun it once :O)

This business of the AI hitting the armco at Deep Forrest - I nearly did it myself in the Alpine. A bit too much welly and the back end starts to come round and there it is sticking out in front of you. Assuming this is what happened to the AI I took a ride with one of them to check it out. But they were just taking a very tight line, two wheels on the curb, and drove straight into it as if they hadn't seen it. No braking, no evasive action. Must have been a bit of a shock.

407pp - 197bhp - 1350kg - FF - CS - Peugeot RCZ '10

Picked a more modern car - It looks quite nice, but it is a Front Wheel drive shocker - but when else will I choose to drive it? This event is almost screaming out for these hoopty cars to have a go. And I never know I may get a surprise. That said every race I've been in has had one of these RCZ in 11th place, drop down to 12th then drop even further back. Heavier than my previous cars, but quite alot of power. A flat slab of Hammy Torque but a very pointy cheesy power curve. Comfort Soft tyres, Front wheel drive... I resprayed it Black Cherry Red. The wonkey roof put me off doing anything overtly green... Overtly...

1m37.723 - 8m31.457 (8m31.711 - Lutecia V6 24v '01 - J Dupont (Famous Belgian))

A crazy first lap, turn 2 had a massive pile up, which by the time my Pug chugged up the hill was like a Days of Thunder scene. But the responsive handling of my RCZ meant I could only choose one place to drive, and that was way out on the outside and hope that I didn't understeer into the tunnel wall. I remember the good old days with lashings of oversteer, when you could rotate a bit more scrub off some speed and turn in... rather than either go fast wide, or slow down which sends you out wide just by slowing down.

Car is fast, but the engine feels under stressed the turbo isn't eager, and the car labours up the hills - maybe the engine note makes the car feel slow. The car probably looks best with a silver chrome or a light colour..
just had a Le Croque Monsieur (I think the Americans call it a Monte Cristo sandwich, maybe) - quite nice. a Bit of power on Understeer, but it is a front wheel drive snack, what do you expect?
Put me off doing another run in the car thought.

408pp - 200bhp - 1145kg - 4WD - CS - Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 '85

1m33.727 - 8m09.802 (8m13.982 - Megane R.S. Trophy '11 V.Eriksson)

I was going to do all the Pugs going down in PP but I guess i need to head up a notch to be fair, 4WD so not quite as bad as front wheel drive. But Not a normal 4WD as the engine is where the back seats are... oh a transversely mounted turbo charged engine... Zut Alors!

Loads of fun. The bulk of the weight of the car on the back axel makes it much more fun for me to drive at least. It isn't great in the corners, but it is a step up from most four wheel drive cars - And you can over rotate in a corner to complete it leaving a big smoky trail.

The Down side is this car murderizes the AI. I grabbed the lead after turn1 of lap 2- and I guess if you were really on it (Or the Ai had one of those Armco chewing crazy days) you could get into the lead before lap 2 starts. Could be fun to repeat with lesser tyres - the power to all wheels should negate much of the hardships.

I thought I'd have a go in the prize car, Peugeot 307 CC Premium AVN '04, before consigning it to the stockyard. 352PP, 141hp through the front wheels on CM tyres and nearly 1500kg doesn't look promising. It's got the top down in the thumbnail but disappointingly the lid is on once you get on track. Still, it can't look any worse, and better aerodynamics I suppose. It was actually much better than I expected. Understeers a bit as you'd expect but not that bad. I managed to weave my way up to second place, then a bit of to-ing and fro-ing and ended just ahead of P3 and 4 seconds off the leader. Did it do enough to escape the stockyard? Not quite.

This one is much more fun

357PP
- 1:39.013 - 8:36.290 - Peugeot 106 S16 '03 - CS - FF - 116hp - 960kg - Lutecia V6 24V '01 - 8:36.439

Bought this one for the event (bargain 18k) and it paid for itself four times over on its first (second place) outing. Had a bit of luck with the win. A last lap comedy routine took out three of the four top contenders, leaving me with just Dupont to deal with and then, with all the space in the world, he chose to bump-draft me at the line.

I was wondering how I managed to miss the 205 turbo. Kept seeing it in the race but it didn't appear in the eligible cars list so I assumed it must be over 450PP. Turns out mine had dirt tyres on.

450PP French Cars at Deep Forest Reverse:
408PP
- 1:34.031 - 8:13.914 - Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 '85 - CS - 4WD - 200hp - 1145kg - Mégane R.S. Trophy '11 - 8.18.240

Passing Dupont's Renault on the right after its abrupt stop was no stroke of luck, but carefully rehearsed. Would have been easy if I had started in any other position.

I see this car gives some indication of its interior - you can tell it doesn't have a backseat, at least.

450PP French Cars at Deep Forest Reverse:
355PP
- 1:45.455 - 8:47.485 - Renault Megane 2.0 16V '03 - CS - FF - 136hp - 1230kg - Mégane R.S. Trophy '11 - 8.47.486

Another new one. I've manged up to now without it and I can't imagine I'll ever use it again but not a bad car, if a little dull. Unusual race in that I didn't see anyone hit the barrier and Eriksson, in the souped-up version of my family hatchback, lifted at the line and handed me the race by the narrowest of margins.

I had a go in the 205 Turbo on CM and won fairy easily. On CH it starts to get a bit slippery and you really have to slow down in the bends. Still not quite as slow as the AI though and the car has enough power not to be overtaken before the finish line once you get to front. The result was a good close race, better than running with a lower PP car which can easily outdo the AI in the bends then gets slaughtered on the straights.

One more -
348PP - 1:45.955 - 8:49.182 - Peugeot 106 Rallye '03 - CS - FF - 101hp - 890kg - Lutecia V6 24V '01 - 8.49.278

Once again the AI kindly bumped me at the line. I checked the replay and I was going dead straight on the left-hand side of the track just inside the white line and he drove straight into the back of me. Maybe he'd forgotten I'd passed him half a lap earlier and thought he was lapping me and decided to rub it in with a little tap.
The car - Looks cheap and nasty with its plain steel wheels and tacky decals, (I remember seeing these and thinking - You really wanted a GTI but couldn't afford it) but it's light, lively and handles nicely. This one's a keeper.

1m38.055 - 8m29.850 (8m30.037 - Lucetia V6 24V '01 J.Dupont)

Had to repeat as the first lap crash took the edge of the race. The engine is quite good but the car is just over the edge of understeer for me. It wasn't a massive amount but just enough to spoil many corners.

Oh la la. OOOh Rene 'old me in your arms!

This was great. the car was alive in the corners, You have to drive properly in the corners to go fast, but when you mess up it ends in a big smokey screeching grin machine.

Deep forest is a cracking track and comfort softs make the drive interesting, and this Front wheel drive car actually felt pretty good. The Understeer was present but not as oppressive as some cars.

389pp - 203bhp - 1560kg - FF - CS - Peugeot 406 Coupe '96

This is one of those cars that looks quite good. Some even say it reminds them of a Ferrari... Too much Red Wine. The car is heavy and for the engine underpowered, but compared to the other engines at this event it has a Muscle car engine.

The car is weight vs Power. The higher weight makes the corners very hard on the tyres and understeer is always a threat if you go in to fast and that weight puts even more load on the front tyres under retardation into a corner which then has to deal with the lateral load and then on corner exit it has to put down the power too. Power isn't quite enough to balance out the added bulk of the car. Not a terrible car but...

=========================
369pp - 137bhp - 1080kg - FF - CS - Peugeot 206 S16 '99

1m39.991 - 8m42.243 (8m42.396 - Megane R.S. Trophy '11 D.Matos)

Huge step down in power, but this car was a nice surprise, Much better to drive than the 406, Understeer was trivial but the best bit of this race was I had to really push to keep the AI at bay. I had a couple of cars swamp me and box me in on the main straight into the fist corner, but the car was poised enough to let me adjust my line without washing out with understeer.

The car felt fast but it was probably due to me having to commit to a line at the last minute when the AI was on my heels. Take a looping outside line and leave the inside open, or commit to a tigter inside line just so the AI didn't force me wide. I think if the AI had backed off I could have been in the 1m42's and set a much slower race time. The AI had two turn 2 crashes where I had to avoid, lift which cost me time, which may have made the final laps feel much faster as I wasn't having to dodge parked cars in the middle of the critical turn 2. So a car you can push quite hard really for a Front wheel drive.

Just had a peak at the specs and the 406 has the worst weight distribution at 64:36 while the two other cars on this list were 62:38 ... gah! Almost mid engined in comparison!

Since you mentioned the engine, I had to look and then noticed it's 406 '98 model. 1996 you got only 4-cylinders.

Nice Garaiya pic at Deep Forest - Good spot on the 406- as I wanted to type in V6 but didn't get around to it. If the engine was a bit better during the race I would have praised the 3 litre V6 I thought it had - which isn't there. I am surprised I wasn't even more disappointed if I only had a straight 4 cylinder.

No GT6 says in Japan only V6 (2.9 litre) was available, and this is what's in the game(s). So the model year is 1998.
