I'm not really sure where this belongs, but this section seems to be the best so far.
I recently discovered what a fantastic car the Peugeot 106 is and I was interested in finding what other similar cars there are that the 106 could compete against. Performance points alone is not enough, I also wanted a general similarity in shape, size and attitude to life.
So I went through my garage to make a list of the relevant cars and classify them. The criterias were:
- Shorter than 4 000 mm in length
- Smaller engine displacement than 2 000 cc
- Less than 1 200 kg in weight
- FF drivetrain
I found 4 different classes of cars, with two subclasses within each class.
(The class descriptions are relative to the group of cars, they're all tiny and low performing compared to supercars.)
The classes are:
A. Top performance cars: >360PP
1. Big displacement engines: 1 700 - 2 000 cc
2. Medium displacement engines: < 1 700 cc
B. High performance compact cars: >330 - 360PP, shorter than 1 500 mm in height, 1 000 - 1 600 cc
1. From 1990 or later
2. From 1989 or earlier
C. Medium performance cars: <330PP, >1 000 cc
1. Lightweights / small sizes: <1 000 kg
2. Heavyweights / big sizes: >1 000 kg
D. Sub-liter Engines: <330PP, <1 000 cc
1. Small displacement engines: ~1 000 cc
2. Micro displacement engines: <700 cc
The criterias were not set in stone, some cars could exceed the limitations if the overall impression was that they belonged better to that class than to any other.
The complete list is presented below. Keep in mind that this is all data for the stock versions of these cars.
Class A
Class B
Class C
Class D
So, what is this list good for? Well, for one thing, it can be used to match stock cars against each other in online racing leagues and to run multi-class races in the compact car segment. Hopefully someone will be inspired into making a club or league for these cars, because some of them (read Peugeot 106
) are just fantastic to drive!

Disclaimer:
The values are from the cars in my garage, cars with different mileage may have slightly different performance.
Class A and B have all gone through oil change / engine restoration. Class C and D are still waiting for that...
I didn't have access to the stock versions of some cars, because for some reason I destroyed them with engine upgrades and weight reduction. The values for those cars are replaced with questions marks and their classes has been estimated by making educated guesses.
There may also be a few cars missing from my garage.
Premium cars have been added from Alfa Romeo to up until Honda, there are still a few premium cars left to add.
