Let's turn this unfortunate event into another one of those hilarious humiliation threads of recent memory. A good Lotus guy had a pair of bright red Volk CE28s stolen from the back of his truck today. Here are the potentially hilarious details:

Volk CE28N
Red anodized (see photo)
8-spokers
15x7 +22 (one front)
16x8 +35 (one rear)
Last seen on very bald Toyo Proxes RA1s:
225/45-15 front
245/45-16 rear
Dallas, TX area

These sizes and offsets rarely properly fit most any car other than the Elise and Exige, and in the candy red colour, they're hard to miss. Please pass on the word so we can get these back to their rightful owner! Yes, keep in mind we're looking for one front and one rear wheel.

Better look for some Civic or 240 driving around with them NOT fitting properly. I'm betting, though, that they're headed to EBay.

Those really look horrible on an Elise, they are horrible to begin with.

Anyway, I hope people can retrieve those rims. Who knows, this might turn into one of those Claw or NOS drink threads

Second! Those rims really don't suit the car at all. Mabye better on white one. Anyway I hope he can retrieve them.

Horrible color. They shouldn't be found and I don't understand why someone would want them.

Also, in before Rotas :p

I did have second thoughts because I've never seen red CE28s before. Seems like that would make them an easy find. Are they painted? Anodized? I can't imagine the person who took them would leave them that color for very long.

Can't wait for them to be found and an epic thread to ensue!

Sad thing is they'd fit on a Civic/Integra quite properly, actually. But not on a 240SX, because of the bolt pattern.

Also, that is quite possibly the most boring color for a Lotus, ever. Corolla beige?

Filled in the first post with information. Yes, this has potential to be one hilarious bust if the perp turns up. The wheel sizes aren't matching in any dimension. Can't imaging the guy having any luck selling them.

Anodized, Keef.

Yes, questionable colours on all counts. Don't judge...

I doubt the guy is able to sell these also. It'd have to be someone who needed a replacement of the same size, and they aren't likely to want to get them refinished.

Exige, I was suggesting the robber would change the color so he didn't get caught as easily. Anodized wheels are common, Volk's bronze and grey, many golds, silvers, and others are anodized, but I've never seen red anodized whole wheels before. They'd stand out in a crowd like a white guy in Somalia.

Turns out the proper way to remove anodization from aluminum is with a complex chemical process. You can paint over it easy enough. You could also remove the coating by sandblasting it, but that would remove material and leave an obvious surface texture that would probably disappear under a coat or two of paint.

Assuming the color is changed, the only reliable way to tell is by the sizes. But of course they may still be blazing anodized red, soo...

Maybe the guy thinks people are going to be logical and expect him to change them, and he's just going to leave them blazing red.

Hidden in plain sight, ya know?

Reverse psychology works on occasion, but that has to be the worst application of it I've ever heard. I'm laughing with you, of course. In fact, I hope the criminal is dumb enough to try that. That would be a FAIL right there.

"What do you mean these are stolen? These are the only CE28s that I've seen like this. Do you think if I was a thief I'd keep them as unique as they were when taken? Ha!"

yes.. the color is really bad... If I was the thief I would change the color of them, then sale them on eBay... okok sorry that not nice to say.. I hold the guy get them back. best wishes..

Wire oven cleaner pads and a bit of soapy water will get an anodized coating off aluminium in no time at all. A trick i learned from my BMXing days ;)

I like the colour combo (*insert avacado bathroom fitment jokes from the mitchel and webb look*). It's like the biege is the colour of a stealth trooper's personal race car - and the Red wheels still hint that it isn't sensible on any counts.

Oh right, in that case I dont think anyone would be so stupid as to keep them the same colour. But you never know, theres been many lolz moments this past few months.
