You know, sn00pie, I agree with you to a limited extent. People should be free to post what crosses their minds on this board. That's what freedom of expression is FOR.
[soapbox]
But, in the name of trees, HAVE A SUBJECT TO POST ABOUT!
I don't care if it is stupid humor (that's a matter of opinion), or rants and raves, or whatever. This is the off-topic forum.
But what is the point of posting threads about NOTHING, that boast about their nothingness? Why start a thread with no other point than to say: "post more threads"? Or worse yet - one that commands us to *READ THIS* and then just says "don't read this" when you look? Only a real jerkoff cries wolf over such a stupid thing.
I'm the king of longwinded debate about trivial topics (after all, I spend a lot of time here, discussing a game that is ultimately trivial). But lately the Rumble Strip is not the off-topic discussion board, it's the NO-topic discussion board.
Yes, I could just stop coming here. But that's abandoning a potentially interesting forum where we can all interact and hang out. There has been serious advice and funny humor handed back and forth here. Why destroy that in the name of saying "This thread is about nothing and I want you all to post more nothing about it"?!
Allowing the total crap to continue in the name of "free speech" (and I'm a Libertarian - I know what that phrase means) is stupid and unhealthy for the site as a whole. It wastes bandwidth, it adds server stress, it buries interesting threads on the back pages, and for what?
So idiots can have a high post count (despite those that claim they don't care)? My count is only 500+. I bet some of these people have more than 500 posts consisting of a single smilie, never mind adding something to the discussion. I challenge you to find 10 posts I've made that aren't either asking a real question, or answering one.
So I'm all in favor of a crackdown against meaningless drivel.
