Just wondered if anyone else has come accross this...

My mate brings his mem card round mine so he can play his cars on my ps2, both ps2 are the older type, and its fine, just loads gt4 and puts his mem card in and plays with his cars, when he leaves I put mine back in restart and I use mine.

Now the wierd thing, 2 nights ago he wanted me to get his F1 car for him, he has 69% game completion, so we started the game going and left it running 24hours in B spec and he got his F1 car, while the car was doing the 24 hr race he took out his mem card and took it home, and put it back in his ps2, all working fine he started playing his ps2, then came back to mine put his card in and saved it when the 24 hrs were up. Everything was fine up till here and he could see his garage, everything. He left my house went home again, put the card in his ps2 and everything went wierd, now he cannot load GT4 it just says disc read error, tried switching it off mem card out, still does it????

GTA San Andreas loads fine as does any other ps2 game, but GT4 will load any more. wtf has happend lol :)

Cheers for any help

According to some, you run the risk of corrupting the save data if you remove and re-insert the memory card while the game is running, maybe you have experienced this? I'm not sure how this would affect the game starting up though.
EDIT: I've just read another thread stating that GT4 needs a memory card to be in working order to run the game, if your friend's is no longer good, this may be the cause. Try your card in his machine with his disk to check. TURN OFF the game before doing so though.

 Does this mean that you've tried booting GT4 with no memory card at all and it still craps out?...

Yes, it will not boot with no memory card, which seems wierd, as I am sure GT4 should load with no mem card, but like I said all other games load fine. Sounds impossible I know!!!

Try it with the other person's disc. You obviously both have disc's. That should let you know if it's the disc or the PS2. Then you'll be able to work on it from there. :)

Yeah will give it a try when I get home from work, as you can imagine 70% completion to lose all your data is a right pita, and it defo wasnt auto saving when we pulled the card out, we were at the main start screen :(

My PS2 did the same thing a month ago but without me doin anything like switchin mem cards. I fixed it by taking the cover of and blowing all of the 3 yrs of dust out of it with a can of air. But be careful though cuz ur waranty goes void and u can really screw up the PS2 if u cut anything. The screws are under the rubber/plastic caps on the bottom of the PS2.

I've got a second memory card and copied all the GT4 game data on that card, in case I get a corrupted file in GT4. I had the same problem in GT4P, lost all data and had to start all over again. "Corrupted files" has nothing to do with the disk.

Backup to another memory card, or shell out a few bucks on a thumbdrive and a Max Drive disk. Now you can back up your save to your computer.

Find it interesting it's coming up with a DRE. That's nothing to do with the memory card!
