Strategy Guide: Cheating?

Do you think using the strategy guide is cheating? If so, post why also.

No, because you still have to do all the work youself. It's not quite like thew discovery you do in an RGP or puzzle type game. Besides we'd all be guilty as heck for using the car guide at the top of this thread. Aside from that, who wants to spend 15 bucks when any info can be found on the internet for free. That's the only reason not to use it.:thumbsup:

I don't think it's cheating, but it's pretty gay. Now me, I like finding things out for myself and using my mind independently. But if you want a book to tell you how to do things, by all means, buy it.

I don't think using the strategy guide is cheating in this game as there aren't any cheats as such like u might find in other games (press XXOOXO, put your pants on your head etc.) I've had a flick through the official guide and it was no different to what i've found on the net, explainations of the tuning parts and there best uses, details for each track, set of races and series along with the cars you could win.
It also had the MOST comprehensive car list i've seen in print, going into anal detail about each car, as opposed to the Drivetype, HP and weight that most do.
I think it's more of a reference guide then strategy

No. Why would it be cheating? I mean you still have to do all the work. Why is knowing what your prize will be cheating?

Speedfreak is exactly right. This is not a manual with cheats. It is more like a comprehensive guide to the game. Almost all the information available in the book is available in the game itself, with the exception of the prize car list, and the indepth track analysis. But having a picture of the track and and info like historical information, definitions etc... hardly give any kind of unfair advantage.

You still have to win the car, , get the licenses, race the tracks, and better yourself. The book neither does nor offer to do any of these things for you.

It's like saying Colin McRae is cheating because he has Nicky Grist in there with him telling him which way the next turn is and how fast he can take it. I doubt any race drivers would race a circuit without studying the turns in depth first. It just saves time rather than out and out cheating.

Great point there....

My opinion is that a strategt guide isnt cheating. The guide doesnt drive the car, does it?

I don't use the guides, but then I was pretty damn hot at GT & GT2, so I know all about the tuning parts, I know quite a lot about cars and racing in general, so I know about suspension settings and all, so the guides aren't much use to me.

Plus, I like to discover the game for myself. I've only had my PS2/GT3 pack for a day and a half, and I'm loving it, but there is something a bit sad about the fact that I already know most of the tracks from the other games. My memory is my guide, and I wouldn't say I was cheating.

See but for me and other people who dont know too much about cars, just like playing GT3 in general, the guide is a very good help for me

I don't have the strategy guide because I don't want to spend the money, but I don't see anything wrong with it. If someone gave me one I'd probably use it. I downloaded lists of prize cars and 'tuning aids' so I could get my cars tuned in just right and go after the cars I want. It's not cheating to have a coach, and that's essentially what the strategy guide is, a coach.

Just to raise a point here macc, I don't actually own the guide, but I have looked up pretty much the same info on the net.

From what I could tell I did actually use my own intelligence to get into the game as far as I have managed, and I can safely say i've used my own intellgence to race the 10K+ Km total I have driven, well 'cept 4 super speedway endurances (still ain't got the falcon ) which i used the "auto pilot" for (which incidently is much easier with the wheel, jam the accelerator down, take the power out of the wheel and tilt "slightly" to the right)
