Don't even bring up NFS or I will report you for de-railing the thread.

What if GT at some point had some variation of street racing or more city tracks? Would it totally kill the series? Or would it be a cool addition? If they ever do add a C-Spec or open world mode I think this would be kind of cool even though many people would disagree with it. I'd love to take an S7 around on the streets of L.A. or NYC, even Tokyo in Japan. A fully modeled city would take forever and likely never to happen, but I think indeed this would be pretty neat.

They could make a fully modeled fictional city based on Special Stage tracks scenery (which is Tokyo-inspired). That would be great. There have been several threads here on this topic and some people, me included, would welcome very much such a mode.

There already are similar games, although not as simulative as GT5.
Try googling or searching on Youtube Wangan Midnight for PS3, for example.
That is nothing that Polyphony couldn't do.

I reckon a couple of tracks around the Tokyo Bay area like in NFS Shift would be good.

They'd also have to implement some extra stuff like flash indicators etc.

I would welcome it very much so. In fact I'd almost rather it's be some kind of night time place like Special Stage.

I figured there would have been threads on this before, I'm trying to make this a kind of, would you like this, and how would this be implemented and how would it work in game. I think its definitely do-able, it's just whether or not they are actually going to do it.

Oh yeah cool then we could have online rooms where people stuck to the speed limits and obeyed road rules!

Wouldn't that be nice.

I think this is already programmed/modeled on Premium cars, but we can't use them directly. You can see flash indicators turned on (although not blinking) on several of them while watching the "car purchase" cutscene.

Sorry, I think extra tracks are a good idea, even some point to point tarmac stuff, but free roam? It's a racing game, all free roam would do is create more opportunities for accidents. I don't think it really is a good fit for the GT series.

That is exactly why it would be more of an extra feature more than something like GT Mode. Everything else is still there. Maybe like GT Mode, Arcade, Free Mode, GT TV, Options type thing for the main menu.

There already are plenty of "unofficial" free-roaming rooms online where people agree to obey to traffic laws. I don't think that providing officially a free-roaming feature would ruin the game. It would make its scope broader!

Especially so seeing as people make these lobbies quite frequently. An online function in free roam would be great, and would eliminate most of those rooms. Also, to start a race, one could drive around and press a button, marking a waypoint race. When they want to start a race, they press a button at the start of their waypoint, marking an area for people to drive to if they want to join. When a race is available, a small notification on your screen would appear in the upper left hand corner, and give you 30 seconds to a minute to get to the start. When you get there (there would be like a big red or yellow arrow or something pointing to the location), you will be pulled from free roam and then a countdown will begin. You will then follow the waypoint. The host of the race would be able to set a number of laps in settings that you could also turn aids and the like on or off, and they would be able to press start and select an option called start a race or something like that to set it up. After the race finishes, you get money and experience like in lobbies, and then your booted back to free roam.

I can't stand "City" tracks. No run off... can't get out of the way of stupid drivers online.

No, please don't PD! I believe this would kill the what GT is and would take WAY too much precious time away from efforts to improve the game further for GT6.

Gran Turismo stands for realism, and I don't welcome and street racing as other developers can focus their efforts on a full fledged street racing game. (there may already be a few out there)

Remove all the barriers from Special Stage Route 5, so the Clubman part is opened up too. It gives you a nice city/highway feel without doing creating any new content, just removing a few barriers.

Live For Speed did something similar with their tracks, just removed all the barriers and made it into one big environment to free roam.

How would street racing take off realism from GT5? Realism in GT5 is mostly about vehicle physics and dynamics (and despite the countless flaws and inaccuracies on that department, it's still better than most other console racing titles). By the way, there aren't street racing driving games with realistic physics as far as I know. What if I'd like one?

This is why I would want a separte mode for this, completely apart from GT Mode and arcade.

On one hand you're right, there are already several other games covering that topic, but otherhand they all lack for me what I love about GT most: Realism and a well done feedback of what your cars doing right now.

So I would wellcome such afeature as well.

I think personally if done right it could be a great addition to the game.

I would greatly welcome a free roam addition. Or, as other people are saying, even a joining of tracks would be a nice addition.

As it's the real driving simulator, many times I just want to take a car out for a leisurely cruise with buddies.

AI traffic would be a bonus for me as well, but I understand many people don't enjoy it.

No, it would be too much like NFS. [/troll]

But seriously, it would.

No worries.

Sounds good.

Yeah.

No, they will take so long.

You already know, they don't need to waste time building up cities, nor they need to waste time on new ultra detailed NON-driveable photomode areas. "Street racing" on tight tracks is cool, but just give us more tracks instead. I'm thinkin about the old GT tracks like Special Stage Route 11, Seattle, Infineon Raceway, and a couple of new entries like Long Beach and Mount Panorama, tight and cool tracks eventually with night cycle. Then keep focusing on things that really matter: improve AI and add full damage on in Aspec, improve penalties online (We need a penalty just for corner cutters, clean drivers don't need othe penalties because they are supposed to drive clean, ghost penalties are not realistic, if a crash happpen, well it's gonna be like in real life, booth drivers will go out of the race. Wreckers on a city track wont make more than 3 corners).

/irony

Better city tracks would be just fine for me. All the new city tracks (except for Tokyo) are boring.

Maybe in a gt6 or 7 i would like to see a city modeled connecting to the race tracks or airports etc. entering the a-spec race once arrived at location..
for gt5 a generic city course creator using the ss track backdrop setting could be cool.
