Struggling with FR drive...help needed

I spent a very frustrating couple of hours trying to win the FR series in the beginners A-spec events. I like to have all the driving aids switched off as I don't want to become dependant on them.

I tried with a Ford Mustang SVT Cobra and then a Jaguar XKR R. I found them very difficult to control going around corners. It seemed if I accelerated when the wheels weren't in line then I would spin. It was like driving on ice.

I eventually gave up ands switched on the driving aids and won the races that way.

Wrong Cars? Tuning required? Poor Driving?
 
Try not to use such overpowered cars. You are clearly not able to handle the power, with no aids.
 
Tuning also goes a long way, and try using sports soft tires. LSD, Suspension, and that Rigidity Improvement go a long way.

Ok, what car would you recommend. The other cars in that race are between 300-350BHP so I can't go too low as I just get over taken on the straights???
 
Relax, try again. You will work it out. Don't just give up. The game isn't going anywhere. Learn to drive well as you will be better off later on.
 
throttle control. If youre using a controller, use the analog stick to accelerate.
If youre using a wheel these cars are alot more manageable.

Try increasing/decreasing your LSD settings until the car is more controllable. And camber/suspension as well.

RWD cars are tougher to drive than others. the more powerful, the more gentle you have to be with throttle. These cars will spin out if youre not careful regardless of settings. Aids do help, but they take away from the fun of driving.
 
Ok guys...thanks for the feedback. I have been doing the majority of the game so far whizzing around in little 200BHP FF cards so far and I think I just need to practise in different types of cars especially with larger BHP.
 
Personally, for any rear wheel drive car over 300hp, I always fit an adjustable LSD and set the acceleration on it to maximum (60). Then as you get used to it you can reduce that until you get a good compromise between acceleration out of the corners/wheelspin.

Edited to add: I use either a wheel or, with a DS3, throttle on the R2 trigger. It gives you more control.
 
Throttle on the R2 trigger helps alot. With FR cars, the driving style is much much different from FF cars. The entry is going to be much different as the car usually has less understeer than FF equivalents.

It is a good time to learn how to drift though.

Start with FR cars with milder behaviour. MX-5 is one good learner car. So are some of the BMWs.

The LSD makes a huge difference for me. Also, you could try turning up the braking sensitivity (I think it might make you more likely to understeer under braking, which is easier to control, hence for now, a good thing!)

And increase the camber to 1.5/1.5 or so (as a starting place). Makes it more stable. Best of luck!
 
Look at changing your controller setup so throttle is either R2 or right stick and brake L2 or Right stick, this will help you deliver/manage the power going through corners and applying it more gradually coming out of corners so spinning is manageable. I played GT with X as throttle for years, either full power or nothing, tried this setup and has really change the way I play GT5 for the better on a DS3.
