I've been looking at a variety of used cars recently. I sort of stumbled across the Legacy. What appeals to me is that it's a Subaru with AWD, like the Impreza, and not a bad looking one at that, but isn't overpriced like Imprezas tend to be. It also seems to have good aftermarket support.

Overall, it seems like a car that would fit my "daily driver, but fun on the mountain roads, and rallycross on the weekends" needs, while still being realistically priced and different.

Plus, it was fun in GT3!

So, does ayone have any input on this car?

Great car, and much under-rated in the US. I run a 2001 Subaru Legacy (Liberty here) 2.5 litre RX (I think GT is the equivalent model in the US) in 5 speed manual form. It is by far the best wet weather car I have driven, and handling is superb. Very well screwed together, with better refinement than the Impreza.

I heard the 2004 or 2005 model will have a trim with a H6 in it... and the styling is more appealing than currently IMO... I believe it comes out in teh fall... but i could be wrong

The current Legacy is already available with an 3.0L H6, it has been for a few years now.

My friend has a 2001 Legacy 2.5 that he modded out. He put an IHI Turbo kit on it with suporting fuel and air mods. Had a custom turbo back exaust made among alot of things. He got the car down to running high 13's which for a Legacy is DAMN good. As well as performance mods he also has suspension done on all 4 corners and a big brake upgrade. The aftermarket parts are out there for them but they are hard to find. The only thing he disliked about the car is that the torque split in the Legacy's are 80/20 which the car really acts like a FWD during handling, and understeer was a problem in the snow.

I went to the Subaru website... and the most expensive one is the 2.5 GT sedan. here are its spec.

Type Horizontally opposed 4-cylinder with die-cast aluminum-alloy block and aluminum-alloy cylinder heads
Displacement 2.5 liters (150 cubic inches)
Horsepower 165 @ 5600 rpm***
Torque (lb.-ft.) 166 @ 4000 rpm
Valvetrain 16-valve with Single Overhead Camshaft design (SOHC)

The cheapest Legacy is still rated at 165hp and it is 20K. While the 2.5GT rated 165hp also is 26K. For that price, i would rather take the Impreza to tell you the truth. The 2.5 impreza runs 19K that is cheaper than the cheapest Legacy with the same amount of power but look better and cheaper. The Impreza WRX runs 25K cheaper than the 2.5 GT Legacy. It has more power 227hp and its basically faster a better deal in my mind.

Yeah, i know about the Outback ;) but even with that i saw the Impreza WRX for 25K is a better deal. 227hp. :D plus it look better in my opinion.

Just wait for the next-gen Legacy 2.5GT, 250HP of pure AWD sedan.

I so agree on you, the wagon is sick!!!

But I feel that the car is too big for my lifestyle. ;)

I'll still stick to the Forester 2.5XT. 👍

Note that I specified used cars. So the Legacy is cheaper, because the popularity of the Impreza has inflated its value. Plus, the Legacy is a lot better looking than the "bug eye" GDB Impreza .

The current Legacy is crap.

You heard me, vat_man.

The old (1995-1999) Legacy GT is the only shining point in an otherwise mediocre era of Legacys. All Outbacks are good.
