The Subaru Rex was Subaru's 3rd Kei car, succeeding the R-2, that first went on sale in 1972. The Rex would be produced for 9 years before being replaced by the Vivio in 1992. The Subaru Rex represented a fresh start designwise, sharing little of its appearance with the Subaru 360, although they were mechanically the same and shared a rear engine layout.

The Rex originally featured the same water-cooled 356cc EK34 two-stroke engine as used in the R-2, and was available only as a two-door sedan. This changed in 1977 when Subaru started production for the Rex 550. This was a higher trim model with the four-stroke 550cc EK23 engine that got the K24 model code.

The Rex 550 came in several bodystyles, with the 5-Door Sedan and 3-Door Swingback being the most popular.

I love Subaru, but the Rex is just too weird for me. But, GT needs more classic cars like this. *Voted*
