The Subaru Alcyone SVX is a luxury coupe produced by Subaru from 1991 to 1996, and was Subaru's only attempt to break into the luxury car market, with the intention of creating the perfect blend of comfort and performance.

Unlike most other Subarus, the SVX utilised a 3.3 Naturally Aspirated Flat 6, the second biggest engine ever seen in a Subaru behind the 3.6 F6 seen in the 2008 Subaru Tribeca. This 3.3 F6 produced 230 BHP and 230 FT-LBS of torque with a 4 Speed Automatic transmission allowing a 0-60 time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 155 MPH. The SVX also had good economy, with it being able to cover 500 Miles on 1 70L tank of fuel, averaging 30 MPG (Imperial).

While the SVX sold decently, it is still regarded as a failure for Subaru as every SVX was sold for $3,000 less than what it cost to make and was also more expensive to tax in Japan thanks to it's large dimension and high displacement engine.

The SVX was introduced in the US for the 1992 model year and dropped the "Alcyone" name with an MSRP of $24,445 for a base model SVX-L, more than any other Subaru but around $5,000 cheaper than a Mitsubishi 3000GT.

In 1991, Ken Knight drove a mostly stock SVX in the Alcan Rally, an event where competitors had to drive from Seattle to the Arctic Circle and back. The SVX won the event, just like Knight had won in 1990 and 1992 in a Subaru Legacy Wagon. Not much info can be found on the SVX that entered this event but it appears the SVX used was very lightly modified, only fitted with the necessary items required for it to go rallying.
