The WRC bred Imprezza WRX STI, which makes its UK public debut at Autosport International Show at Birmingham’s NEC in January has been priced at only £24,995 On-The-Road, £1,600 less than old model. The STI is powered by a 300 PS (305 hp) 2.5-liter turbo flat 4-cylinder – unlike the Japanese market STI which uses a higher-revving 2.0-liter turbo. Max speed is 155.3 mph with a 0-60 mph time of 4.8 seconds. Fuel consumption compared to the previous model improves to 20.5/34.4 and 27.4 on the Urban/Extra Urban and Combined Cycles. First deliveries are expected next March. See below for more details.

Looks like this is gonna be my next car. :D

and they Jack the price UP in the U.S.? what does Subaru have against US?

(Stupid war and stupid China driving our stupid dollar into the ground...)

I was expecting this car to cost more like 28 grand going by the US price but it seems like we are not going to get shafted as much this time.

Thank the very healthy exchange rates in the favor of the UK. My guess is that a good number of your cars (among other things) will start dropping in price soon. Still, the STI in the US being $35K to start, thats just outrageous.

Uh no, our dollar was way over valued to begin with, it's just going back down to where it should be. The war is actually pumping money into companies to build weapons and what not.

But who cares, the enthusiast aren't happy with the car anyways so there won't be a huge market for it in the US. But no matter what a company charges for a car there will always be someone to buy it.

Does anyone realize that they're paying the equivalent of 50K U.S. dollars there? I'd say were getting a not-so-bad deal.

Okay, not an economist, so I'll take your word on the overvaluing point

But will Subaru's U.S. sales be satisfying enough? Especially with the Evo GSR, and the near-lux VW R32, undercutting it? (Granted, the top Evo MR is above it, but what do you get other than "DSG," and some nice wheels?)

...like most cars sold over here and there?

This is a great price. Just fingers crossed it still has the abilities of the older models.

Ya you can not convert GBP to USD and vice versa because it makes it look like one of the countries is getting screwed. The car is a good price for the British market, while it's probably not a good price for the Americans.

Leather, navigation, just more amenities overall. Also nicerwheels and the SST transmission.

Oh, so nothing anyone really needs. XD

That makes me wonder, though: how well is the STi equipped compared to the GSR? That might make the U.S. price difference seem a little easier to swallow. Still...there's that R32...

Which is down 30-50 horsepower, has a V6, and is a totally different car. Not a valid comparison.

Uh, why then do most motor mags and TV shows compare the R32 with the Evolution and STI? They may not meet eye-to-eye on most performance specifications, they clearly are in the same territory; Particularly the STI and the R32. For a little over $30K you get nearly 300 BHP, all-wheel-drive, and at least two out of the three have the dual-clutch boxes.

The R32 may not keep pace on the track, but everywhere else, its a VASTLY superior car.

Meh, it still saddens me it turned into a hatchback. The sport sedan was a much better look for it in my opinion.

I guess no one here doesn't get it? That car is so ugly it isn't even WORTH 15,000 quid. I think everyone in every country is getting ripped off. I'd rather pay more for a car that has similar or less performance but looks alot better.

I dont think I have ever seen any mag in europe do that comparison TBH. The STI is a good price for the UK but bad for the US. The weak dollar is also going to keep the audi a1 away from the US. VAG want to build more factories in the US now because of it.

No one ever bought a STI for its looks. It was purely bought for its perfomance pedigree. The interior is utterly crap as usual, and the exterior is so so but its still a hell of alot better looking than any BMW 1 series. Now that is a ugly car.

P.S

Does anyone know whether the 2.5 turbo tunes well? the engine bay looks awfully cramped to allow any go faster bolt ons.

There was a car on Top Gear the other day that was selling for the inexpensive price of 60,000 pounds. Funny, because it's $60,000 here. The Brits are paying $120,000 for that thing--double what we're paying. That's ridiculous.

I would buy an early 2000's model WRX or a 22B based solely on how they looked.

Fair enough so would I actually. Not because its handsome but just because it looked so mean.

I don't understand what is so shocking other than the 1,600 less than the previous UK model.
I mean, by my guesstimates the 25,000 woud match up pretty close to the 35,000 dollars.

If anything I would guess this says Subaru wants to be even more competitive.
From the get-go I've liked this new wagon and now I just have one more good reason to do so.

Btw, what is the exchange on this? 25,000 is equal to what in America?

Now I know that looks are a very personal thing and certainly the 1-series is not a thing of great beauty; but the latest Impeza better looking? Can't agree with that at all, even taking the WRX STi (which de-uglys it to a small degree) I would still pick the 1-series for looks, particularly the Tii (if it even comes out)...

...at least I hope we don't disagree on which would have the better interior.

As far as what its like to drive, Autocar and Evo have had 'first' drives, and both were quite positive.

Well actually I was a bit unfair to the 1 series. When thinking of the 1 series I was thinking about the plain jane model. The m sport bodykit ones do make it look alot better, just like how the STI does to the normal impreza. I should have compared like for like really. Both are ugly cars, I just know that I would have a smile on my face when blasting past pretty and expensive cars in my STI.

Fifty-two thousand dollars.

Wow, so it more than doubles. :ouch:
I'd say the Americans are probably get one of the best deals in that case, if our Impreza Sti will really sell for 35,000 then it's a great deal (for that car).

Makes me think highly of the new Sti. I've always like station wagons over SUVs (I drove SUVs learning to drive and the body roll/ handling has scared me for life). With a car like this on the market I'd say any enthusiast with the money to drive an SUV or the luxury to drive a manual should seriously consider the Sti wagon for '09 (is it an '09 model already? ).

Oh, god. Please, Don't bring up THAT argument again. Do you like to start Debates, forza2.0? Especially the kind that ruin threads?

Still like the cheaper Evo GSR.

Are you serious? Do you guys actually think this is a station wagon. How the hell did I miss that one?

P.S

Its a hatchback. ;)

No, we're split on whether it's a hatchback or wagon. We went over it in the last WRX thread, and It was a major threadkiller, like the tire/laptime debate. It's something I'd rather not relive.
