I recently decided I wanted to get a wheel for gt5 as I have been playing the game a bit more often ( still not that much, Im level 24 or 25.) I wanted an affordable wheel which is good but not top of the line ( dont want to pay that much)... It turns out the logitech driving force gt which I was hoping to get for a bit over a 100 bucks is available for 200 something. The g27 is 400 and most other wheels cost about the same. There are two exceptions however, the ferrari GT experience and the subsonic racin pro. The ferrari one seems to have bad reviews everywhere and has just 90 degrees rotation each side so I thought it likely isnt good enough even though its selling for just 70 dollars. The subsonic one has a lot of MIXED reviews. Some will say its great others that its not sensitive enough. How much of a problem would 270 degrees of rotation be for someone who isnt a pro and would only play this a few times weekly? anyone tried the subsonic racin pro? any thoughts or input?
Thanks

The Driving Force GT or the G27 will be your best bet. I have never used a DFGT but there are many recommendations here under "Sim Racing Hardware". If you check Amazon or eBay you should be able to find one for $99 - $149 new. I have a G27 which I found used on eBay for $100( they guy just wanted to unload)I recommend it very highly, but I doubt you can get it for under $200. Most GTers don't recommend lower end Wheels.

I wish I could have gotten it online, the Driving force GT is selling for just over a 100 on Amazon. The problem is they dont really deliver to lebanon. One company that gets them here uses an american address but charge 15%, and then I have to add another 30% for taxes and all of a sudden I dont find it as well priced anymore.
BTW I read some people complaining about the 900 degrees being a hastle because they have to work harder on corners is that true? doesnt the software compensate for that depending on teh car? I was almost certain PD would have figured something like that out :S

You really don't use the full 900 degrees. When the tune is correct it doesn't take as much wheel as you might think. Because the wheel can give you smaller increments on turning compared to the DS3 it takes a while to get used to new set ups. The learning curve is about 2 weeks to a month. Some drivers are aliens when it comes to set up and driving skills and they probably don't have much of a learning curve. I have had my wheel for about 6 months and am still learning. However, my skill set wasn't all that high to start. International shipping and initial outlay puts you at a cost disadvantage.

If you read more of the more complete reviews under the "hardware" forum you will get a better understanding of the advantages to the DFGT and G27 over the lesser wheels.(there are always haters for whatever hardware your are checking)

Given your price disadvantage perhaps there is someone on here who will have some information on the "Subsonic" and "Ferrari Experience" You might try a search of the "Sim Racing Hardware" forum for specific information on both those wheels.

Thanks for the helpful insight... Im going to have to think this over I guess, I dont play much but if the DFGT is the only thing thats good I might just have to dish out those few extra bucks and make it happen. Ive been reading the hardware section but its only high end wheels in there for some reason ( DFGT and G27 and 25 )

You must go for the DFGT at the very least, or if you can find it the Driving Force Pro (older version but still used by a lot of people on here and still has 900 degree rotation) because I have used a really cheap wheel before, it was like using a controller, though I had pedals and could turn a wheel, the lock was almost instant and I hated it after a while, so got lucky on eBay and got a DFGT for about half the full price new, but I could never find a brand new one at a good enough price, let alone one on Amazon or whatever. And I must say it's made GT5 a better game for me, the 900 degree rotation is strange, it has its uses, but really I never reach it when cornering. I think it's only used in drifting, but general racing you don't need all of the rotation because you will simply cause your tires to lock up if you turn the wheel too much.

So my best advice is skip the cheap ones and go straight to the big boys - if you get a DFGT and then think damn I wish I had gotten the G27, don't worry if you give it a bit longer use the DFGT for a few months you might think it may not be worth it if you're only a casual player, but even so, a Logitech wheel in your price range will be 10 times better than a Ferrari wheel or other cheap wheel because it has force feedback and more realistic level of rotation. So there's only one option, buy the best you can afford, and don't settle for a low end one, you will be glad you didn't after.
