My friend has a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder with a 6CD Bose Audio system, he wants me to help him install subwoofers in his truck. I've never been much of an audio guy, so I don't really have a great idea of what to do and where to start.

Will we need to purchase a new head unit/deck? Assuming the subwoofers connect to a new amplifier, which connects to the head unit. I don't think the bose system will have plugs for an amp or will it? I have no idea what I'm talking about!

Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks alot!👍

Ummm... I'm no expert but I think if you're stock head unit doesn't have pre-out's you'll need a new head unit.

Other than that I'm going to be learning the same stuff or when I go to install my sub. Lucky for me I got a friend who knows all this stuff. If I can get ahold of him i'll ask what all you need.

You can get plug adapters that will allow a speaker output, like the left and right, to be split to a harness that steps the higher wattage speaker output down to a line level signal providing you RCA outputs to run to your sub's amplifier. This is not the ideal setup, but it allows you to maintain your stock deck. There's a lot of options to do just about anything and would think that a good local Car Audio shop could steer you in the right direction.

Here's one of many that I found:

Also, some amplifiers like the JL Audio's Slash v2 and A-Series amps support speaker level inputs, in which case, a line level converter is not required.
