Suggestion. Provide ability to "like" photo galleries and/or individual photos

The Suggestion Box is a great idea and seems to have been a raging success.

I'm thinking that members' photo galleries would be another great application of this function. Over time, as the Likes build up, sorting the galleries on "most liked" would be fantastic. It would also provide @Jordan with a great source of loved photos for "photo of the month".

As I think this through further, it might be appropriate to not only provide the ability to like galleries, but individual photos.

Sorry, this is kind of stream of consciousness writing, but I'm hoping this strikes a chord with the community.

I like the idea of being able to organise the Photomode Galleries by likes but that could have the reverse effect. It might bury new galleries pretty quickly as they're immediately behind galleries that have been around longer.

Not only that, but it's as open to clique-ism as the rest of the like system is.

Maybe if it was optional?

The way the Suggestion Box works, is that by default, the threads are in the order of last comment, with most recent first. There is a link to click which sequences threads by "most liked". There is also a control to allow more tailored sorting, such as by date of original post (up or down), and number of responses.

New galleries would therefore appear on the first page and be pushed down by other new galleries or galleries which receive comments (not likes).

I hadn't realized that clique-ism was alive and well here. I don't know how to fix that.

This is an interesting idea, but, due to the way the forum software is structured, there's no simple way to enable "liking" for individual pieces of content such as pictures.

Note that you can sort any forum by the number of "likes" each thread's first post has received via the "Thread Display Options" near the bottom of each forum page.

@Jordan, you know the way the Suggestion Thread actually tells us to like the first post, and encourages sorting by Likes? That'd be great for Galleries as well.

And as far as Liking individual photos, I'm not looking for software changes, merely the encouragement of Gallery posters to avoid posting a large number of images in one posting. If they stick to one image per post, we can be selective about what we "Like".

As a Gallery contributor, I like to see which particular images of mine are popular. And I'd like to see the same for others as well.

As a visitor to the Galleries, I might see a posting with multiple images and only actually like one of two of them. So should I "like" the whole post, or just pass on by. I usually do the latter.
