So basically I'm gonna be getting a laptop for my 18th and I'm shopping around. I know there's alot of horror stories of certain brands going round so any input on that is welcome.

My own criteria really is I'd like a proper graphics card, nothing on-board.

And just oen further thing, I have 10% if it's from Tesco...
Hence, opinions?

[EDIT]
And a Vaio... Just over budget but that should be okay.

There has been a PC World advert on recently with a laptop with £150 off. Can't remember how much it is though.

I have a Viao notebook and I've never had an issue with it in the three years I've owned it. I just updated the RAM a few weeks ago but other then that I've never had to do anything to it.

Yeah, but it didn't have an independant graphics card. I mean I don't game much, but having on-board graphics would be abit lame if I ever wanted to.

Thanks 👍

Indeed, I have an Alpha R:

Nothing wrong at all with it for the 5 months I've had it, apart from a noisy fan which was fixed on the same day I gave it back. It's style is very boring but it gives you a lot of bang for your buck.

Edit: That Viao does seem pretty good though.
I'll give them a good look through tomorrow.

Lenovo is really good! You get IBM build quality for reasonable prices... I used a 3000 series laptop all last summer and it was flawless..

Again, I'll have a browse through tomorrow.

Thanks guys.

And so the Vaio has arrived. Yeah we went for that in the end as my dad wanted a reliable name brand that he knew and Sony just screamed that at him. He quickly pointed out than the Lenovo's are also generally smaller sizes only.

So yeah, now to wait 5 weeks till I actually get given it.
